While Gal Gadot's future as Wonder Woman in the new DCU remains as uncertain as pretty much everyone else who was ever part of the DCEU, 2023 still looks set to be an exciting year for her fans.
Later this year, Netflix will release Heart of Stone, a new action-packed espionage thriller from director Tom Harper and writers Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder. Thanks to USA Today (via ActioNewz.com), we now have a fresh look at Gadot as Rachel Stone in a movie that looks set to take the actress on a thrilling new, non-comic book-related adventure.
Gadot co-stars in the movie with Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt, and has previously called Heart of Stone an "extremely epic, super-grounded, raw action thriller." The Diana Prince actress has also claimed her character "lives off the adrenaline," so she sounds every bit the action hero in a movie that reportedly includes motorcycle chases, knife fights, and even breakneck skydiving.
The Chris Hemsworth-led Extraction proves that Netflix has become a good platform for action franchises like this one, and assuming Heart of Stone is a success, we're sure sequels (and even spin-offs) will follow.
While filmmaker James Gunn has debunked claims that there are no plans for Wonder Woman in the DCU, we still don't know whether Gadot will play the hero in future projects. Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 pitch was rejected by DC Studios, so the filmmaker's time as part of the franchise has either already ended or she's gone back to the drawing board to come up with a new story.
This movie, thought to be in the same vein as the Mission: Impossible franchise also stars Sophie Okonedo, Matthias Schweighöfer, Jing Lusi, Paul Ready, Jon Kortajarena, Matteo Cicconi, Angela Esposito, and Daniela T. Nikolova.
Heart of Stone doesn't have a release date as we write this, but will hit Netflix a little later this year. Keep checking ActioNewz.com for the latest updates.
