Last night's Star Wars Celebration event wasn't all about the goings-on in the galaxy far, far away, as Lucasfilm also debuted the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Willow sequel series!

Before The Lord Of The Rings and Game Of Thrones, we had George Lucas and Ron Howard's fantasy adventure, Willow. The 1988 movie is generally considered to be something of a noble failure, but it still has a dedicated cult following all these years later.

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel series debuted during yesterday's Star Wars Celebration (via SFF Gazette), and has now been released online.

Set 20 years after the events of Ron Howard's original, this Disney+ follow-up will focus on the titular Nelwyn sorcerer (the returning Warwick Davis), his daughter (Davis' real-life kid Annabelle) and a new group of adventurers as they embark on a journey to "correct the balance" between good and evil.

It was also announced that Joanne Whalley will reprise her role as villain-turned-hero Sorsha from the 1988 movie. She joins previously announced leads Ellie Bamber, Tony Revolori, Cailee Spaeny and Erin Kellyman, and Rosabell Laurenti Sellers.

Check out the teaser below along with an updated synopsis, and let us know what you think in the comments.

The story began with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness. Now, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues, as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.

Willow is set to premiere on November 30.

Rewatched the original recently, having watched it a lot when I was a kid.

Definitely great and Val Kilmer is hilarious in it.

Will definitely check this out

@MotherGooseUPus - I’ve pushed all my “must watch” to the fall/winter season. Sun’s out I’m out! I have a classic truck that has show in area car shows, t-ball with my son, gymnastics with my daughter, and grilling out next to the pool. Now add my Christmas in July Santa schedule and in October my regular Santa schedule. Busy busy busy!

@SimplyAz - I did not realize until 20 years later that it was "Madmartigan" instead of "'Mad' Martigan", as in his nickname was "Mad."

@Rosraf -

That's fair enough, although we can always put it in our own head canon that he created his own name because he's such a geezer.

Was not expecting this to look so expensive. Easy loophole for Disney to create a fantasy show whilst keeping it within existing IP, not complaining tho, looks great
Rosraf
Rosraf - 5/28/2022, 5:54 PM
@Cap1 - Yeah, this could work really well because the original movie provides enough nostalgia and backstory without too much baggage because it was just they one movie/story, with plenty of room still to world build around. And it looks good so far.

Not bad, also Kenobi was a pleasant surprise. Without spoiling anything I'll just say I'm looking forward to the remaining episodes. The casting has been spot on and it doesn't look cheap like the Boba Fett show

It’s a very safe teaser and doesn’t show much which is basically what teasers need to be.

I hope this holds or improves on the magic of the original movie. It was one of the best fantasy films made before Lord of the Rings, and it was an original Lucas story.
Ron Howard did a great job directing.
Unfortunately it didn’t do well enough in theaters to merit a sequel because a sequel was well deserved.

I'm quite excited for this show. Not because I'm such a big fan of Willow, but because I wanna see how Disney does fantasy after Netflix and Amazon Prime. Using Willow as that setting though, is a very good move.

I love Willow, I still watch it about once a year. An obvious and loving LOTR rip off, heavily stylistically influential over the LOTR movies.

Looks way better than I thought it would. Original is a top five film for me. I think I saw it 5 times in the theater when I was just 6 years old. And it's aged very well

@grif - They said his character is involved in some way. But it will surely be limited because he did not film with the regular cast.
