THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Creators Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec Reunite For DEAD DAY Series Adaptation
Peacock has issued a straight-to-series order for a TV adaptation of Ryan Parrott's Dead Day comic book series, and they've enlisted Vampire Diaries alums Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec to bring it to life.
Deadline is reporting that Peacock has issued a straight-to-series order for a live-action television adaptation of Ryan Parrott's hit comic book series, Dead Day.
Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec, the creators of The CW's acclaimed supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries, are the creative minds behind the series and will serve together as co-showrunners and writers. Parrott will also be involved as a consulting producer.
The synopsis for the comic book series reads, "Meet the Haskins, a seemingly normal suburban family, as they prepare for the annual macabre holiday known as “Dead Day" – when the deceased rise from the grave from sunset to sunrise. Some come back to reunite with family and friends, others for one last night of debauchery, still others with only one thing on their decomposing minds: revenge."
Williamson was most recently an executive producer on Paramount's Scream (2022) and is currently working on the Miramax thriller Sick. Meanwhile, Plec has remained in the realm of vampires and is simultaneously developing a Vampire Academy series, also for Peacock.
In a statement, Lisa Katz, president of scripted content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said,
“Dead Day combines an exciting, high-concept premise with relatable characters and real emotion. We jumped at the opportunity to work with Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, who not only have tremendous individual track records with their high-quality storytelling, but have created magic together before.”
Vivian Cannon, EVP, Drama Development, Universal Television, added,
“Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson are each a powerhouse unto themselves, so we couldn’t have been more excited when they told us they wanted to team up again. Dead Day will be everything Julie and Kevin’s audiences love about their work—emotional, unexpected and totally bingeable.”
