WANDAVISION Director Matt Shakman To Helm GODZILLA & THE TITANS Live-Action Series For Apple TV

The live-action Godzilla and the Titans (not its official title) series we first heard about back in January has found a director, with Matt Shakman (WandaVision) set to helm the first two episodes.

We first learned that Legendary Pictures was in the process of developing a live-action Godzilla series for Apple TV+ back in January, and the project has now found a director.

According to Variety, WandaVision director Matt Shakman has signed on to helm the first two episodes and serve as an executive producer on the show. The project still doesn't have an official title, but is currently being referred to as Godzilla and The Titans.

Chris Black (Star Trek Enterprise, Outcast) and acclaimed comic book writer Matt Fraction will executive produce. The pair will also serve as co-creators, with Black on board as showrunner.

The underperformance of Godzilla: King of The Monsters led to speculation that Godzilla Vs. Kong might end up being the final chapter in Legendary's Titans franchise, but the movie ultimately exceeded all expectations at the box office when it roared into theatres last year during the early days of the pandemic, and there's still plenty of life in the MosnterVerse yet.

We don't have a whole lot to go on when it comes to plot details just yet, but a brief logline for the show tells us: "Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch."

This won't mark the end of the MonsterVerse on the big screen, however, as Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard is still said to be in talks to helm the next movie, which is expected to focus on the Son of Godzilla.
