UPDATE: Godzilla Minus Zero's CinemaScore Revealed As Clayface Is Already Pushed From The Top 5

Godzilla Minus Zero is smashing box office expectations with a record-breaking opening weekend, while The Cat in the Hat struggles to impress critics. Meanwhile, Clayface faces an uncertain future.

UPDATE: Box office analyst Gitesh Pandya reveals that Clayface is currently in seventh place and will likely finish the weekend with $57 million domestically. While it's believed the DC Studios movie has surpassed $100 million worldwide, we're still waiting on updated international numbers.

This points to a fairly decent third weekend for the R-rated body horror. However, even if Clayface's break-even point is closer to $110 million, the DCU movie isn't going to turn a significant profit and hasn't become a breakout horror hit like Backrooms and Obsession. Will this, coupled with largely positive reviews, be enough for new DC Studios owners, Skydance? That's TBD.

Deadline reports that Godzilla Minus Zero is now eyeing a $30 million to $33 million opening weekend in North America after a strong $13.5 million Friday (that includes $6.7 million from this week's preview screenings).

This is the biggest opening ever for a live-action foreign-language movie at the domestic box office, and there's a possibility that the movie could end up further exceeding expectations thanks to positive word of mouth.

Godzilla Minus Zero has received an A CinemaScore from audiences, which is rare for a non-English, R-rated movie. This puts the sequel on par with Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla Minus One and above movies like Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (A-), 2014's Godzilla (B+), and 1998's Godzilla (B-).

On Rotten Tomatoes, Godzilla Minus Zero is "Certified Fresh" at 90% with 96% on the fan-generated Popcornmeter.

Second place this weekend will go to Warner Bros. Animation's The Cat in the Hat. That made $5 million on Friday for an expected $17 million to $20 million start. The movie has bombed with critics, earning a "Rotten" 45% score on the review aggregator. Audiences, however, have awarded it an A CinemaScore, so it may have legs throughout November.

Angel Studios' Drummer Boy will take third place with $9 million, while hit documentary You Can See Everything is set for a $8 million to $9 million fourth weekend. Next is Ramayana: Rise of the Legend ($6 million), with Wild Horse Nine rounding out the top five with $5 million to $6 million.

There's no mention of DC Studios' Clayface in this report, suggesting the R-rated body horror's box office run is winding down in just its third week. The movie has already grossed over $90 million worldwide, but with a reported $130 million break-even point, DC Studios likely won't turn a profit. That doesn't bode well for the chances of Clayface 2 and puts the pressure on Man of Tomorrow to deliver for Skydance.

War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. In Godzilla Minus Zero, two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life. Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant. There is no third time. Everything ends here.

Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the movie stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Jun Kunimura, Miou Tanaka, Sakura Ando, Masami Nagasawa, Min Tanaka, and Hidetaka Yoshioka.

Shot entirely in Japan as the first-ever Japanese production filmed for IMAX, Godzilla Minus Zero was shot with high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX, and optimised in sound and imagery unique to IMAX screens. The globally beloved monster returns to movie theater screens, reaching greater and more terrifying heights, making Godzilla Minus Zero a true cinematic event not to be missed.

Godzilla Minus Zero is now playing in theaters.

To those who've seen it, was Ghidorah cool in the movie?

He was my favorite part of KOTM.

"but with a reported $130 million break-even point, DC Studios likely won't turn a profit."

Who reported this? All I can find are 110 million to break even. Do you just pull numbers out of your ass?
ProfessorWhy
ProfessorWhy - 11/7/2026, 5:45 AM
@Spawnnn - the discrepancy is due to the fact that Clayface's marketing spend was not disclosed. Most assume it was not disclosed because they spent a ton of money to push the film to preserve the DCU's chances and because it was deemed safe due to the small production budget. There is a very real possibility that the breakeven point is north of $140M
UltronIO
UltronIO - 11/7/2026, 7:40 AM
@Spawnnn - Clayface's marketing felt almost as big as Supergirl's. They spent more than the normal amount for a film of this size.

@Spawnnn - it’s weird how we get this information but source of it no where to be found people report this news don’t work in Hollywood how do they know what price of what goes to what and how much

@Spawnnn - The movie's break-even point is somewhere between $110M-$135M. There is conflicting reports but these are all estimates based on figures thrown around by multiple news outlets. When I say figures I mean the budget for the movie.

It's either $30M, $44M or 40M. It's somewhere within that number. I doubt they spent a lot on marketing because obviously...the box office numbers speak for themselves that there wasn't a strong marketing campaign. I'm going to guess they spent somehwere between $10M-$20M in marketing.

@Spawnnn - Josh really hates Clayface. Here we have a Godzilla article and he decides to have a full paragraph about Clayface doing less than spectacular and how Man of Tomorrow will have to save the DCU. He can’t help himself.
Kozmik
Kozmik - 11/7/2026, 6:16 PM
@Irregular - How are you equating box office results with promotional spend!? Just because the movie is underwhelming at the box office doesn’t at all mean that the costs to promote it weren't high when it more than likely just means that the movie isn't resonating with audiences.

As if the third week falloff doesn't show that latter point.
Irregular
Irregular - 11/7/2026, 6:31 PM
@Kozmik - I didn't equate the two, you are. I am saying there is little indication that the studio heavily invested in marketing. It's also very obvious the money invested into marketing the movie was not that high considering it was made at an estimated $30-$44M. They didn't spend their production budget all on marketing, it was most likely half of that or even a quarter of the production budget.

@Arthorious - I saw Clayface yesterday and I really enjoyed it. It's not Barbie, but in a similar vein to BB, there was a paradigm regarding the perfection of expected appearance in modern media/social media - and the personal, individual imperfections that are birthed when that expectation is not realised. I don't know if other viewers saw that as well. It was a fun movie. Hopefully we see this CF again but with Batman next time

I was one that was fairly upbeat about Gunn’s DCU after Superman.

But man, a year and a half later and he’s just been taking us on the mid-train express.

Nothing has been horrendous in my opinion but jeez man, Supergirl, Lanterns and Clayface all just kinda barely getting it done with some undertones of modern politics that come across as dopey and quaint.

DC fans are destined to weep and gnash their teeth into perpetuity I guess

@Lucasberg - Yeah DCU has been a let down for me. Not as bad as DCEU but it's not like DCU is doing anything 100x better. I actually really liked the lineup for DCEU that was planned, it was the execution that was the problem.
