Xbox's event to mark the 20th Anniversary of the popular Halo video game franchise is set to take place later today, but it looks like one of the surprises has leaked online a little earlier than scheduled.

Thanks to DexertoSpartans, we have a first look at some footage from the live-action Halo series coming to the Paramount+ streaming service. The teaser is very brief, and only features a couple of close-up shots of Master Chief's (Pablo Schreiber) armour, gloves, 117 insignia, and iconic helmet as we hear Cortana's voice say, "Hello, Master Chief."

It's not much, but after a series of production woes and serious setbacks almost derailed this long-gestating adaptation altogether, fans will likely be happy to see some proof that the show is still heading our way at some point.

UPDATE: The teaser has now been officially released!

Halo will also star Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, Yerin Ha and Kate Kennedy.

According to an official logline, the series will focus on "an epic 26th century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future."

I remember back in high school, 13 years ago, when Peter Jackson was working on a Halo film.

Better late than never?

Man I love the Halo games, everything from the alien war to the zombies just screams film franchise to me. I was so upset back when Neil Blomkamp and Peter Jackson’s Halo film was cancelled, those two together at the time would have been amazing, this was after District 9 one of my favourite alien films of all time.

I really hope this is great. I wanna see what kind of budget it has though cause a Halo story needs a big budget. I really like Pablo Schreiber as an actor I am hopeful for his Master Chief although Master Chief is probably the easiest role an actor can play.. hardly any emotion, strong silent type who never takes his helmet off. We’ll see.

I do hope there’s a full trailer later today. Schreiber teased something for today so surely it’s gotta be more than this.

But anyway, Halo is one of my favorite franchises, and I’m feeling hype for Infinite on the level I haven’t felt since Halo 3. I hope this show works out well. A buddy of mine knows some industry people and he let me in on some stuff about this show when it was earlier in production. What he told me sounded very promising and the people working on it have their hearts in the right place. Really hoping they pull it off.
