OLDBOY (2013) follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for twenty years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor’s motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.

OLDBOY directed by Spike Lee ("Inside Man"), from a screenplay written by Mark Protosevich. The cast includes: Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Rami Malek, Hannah Simone, Lance Reddick, Richard Portnow and Michael Imperioli. It opens in theaters October 25th, 2013.

I like the first one and the third one. Tye last one looks generic (so does the first one, actually), and the second one, though interesting, doesnt really tell much about the film.

There are a couple of good film to film adaptations. I believe this is one of them.

I saw an early screening a few months ago.. I won't give anything away but I will say that in my opinion, it was horrible. From what I could tell, people who saw the original hated Spike Lee's version, and people who knew nothing of Oldboy beforehand loved it.

I don't see how they could have changed much since that screening, but I'll still watch it again when it comes out just to see the final cut.

[frick] spike lee and his dumbass filmaker status. the dude hasnt made anything good for so long and now he plans on remaking this beautiful masterpiece and for what? because americans are too lazy to see the original and read the subtitles? i hate remakes of great foreign films. if they're perfect the first time then leave them alone! if the american audience didnt even notice it the first time what makes spike lee think they'll notice it now?
