Concept Reel For Animated GATCHAMAN Movie Surfaces

Concept Reel For Animated GATCHAMAN Movie Surfaces

A few years back and before the live-action Gatchaman (G-Force, Battle of the Planets) movie entered development, there were plans for an animated feature film. Those plans fell through but some new animation tests have surfaced.

IMAGI Studios (TMNT, Astro Boy) began work on a cg Gatchaman feature film back in the late 2000s but the company went belly up after some disappointing box office performances. Suffering in that fallout was the cg Gatchaman movie which was left unfinished. It's interesting to see that the studio was using a few scenes from X-Men: The Last Stand as a case study. There's also some previsualization studies below. A live-action Gatchaman movie was released this past summer in Japan.

Looks like it would've been pretty cool. Hard not to imagine what would've happened if Pixar had it or something. Looks like a better version of Beware the Batman (the bad guy looks like Owlman a little!)

That's sad it never made it to animation. I was looking forward to this. I figured it would look somehting like that after the Astro Boy flick. I do want to see the live action one though.

The animation looked really good during the finished scenes and I would definitely watch the movie.

Was that a scene featuring dialogue from the first X-men movie that strangely turns up in the reel?? That was pretty weird to see but kind of cool. Besides that I was really hoping for this full length feature to finally appear. Even if it was a direct to video release it would have been worth the watch.

Since we're talking about Beware the Batman, this seems like it could be a pretty popular animated series in that style. It might be better suited to series form than a movie.

Wish someone had BOTP on (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Cartoon Network) I've told my boys about it, and they would love to see it.

I think Warner Bros should pick this up as they did with the Turtles. With some little additions in Making Zoltar into a woman called Queen Zoltara of SPECTRA I think it would be interesting. To see G-Force Battle Of The Planets would bring back great fondness from the fans to see this film on the screen.

I think Gatchaman is better suited for CG. I hope the live-action movie turns out well.
