Director Shinji Aramaki (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Halo Legends, Appleseed Saga: Ex Machina) unleashes an interstellar thrill ride with Harlock: Space Pirate on Digital HD, On Demand and DVD from Ketchup Entertainment! Based on the classic comic book and TV series, this adventure stars David Matranga (Appleseed, Journey to Agatha), Emily Neves (Starship Troopers: Invasion, Journey to Agatha), and Rob Mungle (Blue Seed, Lady Death).

A mysterious space pirate of the future, Captain Harlock, is determined to return his death ship and loyal crew to a battered Earth, which has been declared off-limits by the intergalactic Gaia Coalition. The rogue captain comes up with an incredible plan to go back in time to rescue Earth, but that includes the destruction of everything, as it exists. A young soldier of the Gaia Coalition volunteers to go undercover on the infamous skull ship and assassinate Harlock, but he soon discovers things are not as they seem. As dark secrets of the past are uncovered, the fate of the entire universe teeters on a very thin edge.

@SonOfStarKiller

It definitely is, and it's English dubbed. The dub is rather terrible though.

Nice looking movie, dumb plot. The TV series was much beter IMO. Only good thing in the movie was Kei.

Yes, the English dub has been on Netflix UK for ages now - just go to language options and tick the english on and subtitles off. Watched it a couple of weeks back, had never heard of it before but it was quite good.

[frick] I loved this as a kid. Captain Harlock AND Captain Future. Classics.

The sound on these clips seems a bit dodge though. Unfinished maybe.

I wish they'd make comic book adaptations in this style of animation. It would be like an hour-long version of the trailers for the Arkham games or Assassin's Creed.

I saw Vengeance of a Space Pirate when I was kid and it inspired me to be an artist. Harlock was amazing. The whole idea of an indestructible space pirate ship plowing into other ships is awesome. Harlock uses a sword and laser pistol, and has that weird bird on his shoulder. The whole Arcadia of My Youth series combines everything I ever loved about pirates and sci-fi into a really epic story. I still hope that we get a true live action Harlock some day. I think it could be like a cross between Serenity and BSG. If everyone loves Firefly crossing the old west with space, then why not pirates with space?
