Rooney Mara Being Looked At For Female Lead In Oldboy

Rooney Mara Being Looked At For Female Lead In Oldboy

Twitch report that the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo actress is the favorite to get into all sorts of twisted goings on as the female lead in Spike Lee's Oldboy remake..

Twitch have broke a few Oldboy related stories in the past, including director Spike Lee and lead actor Josh Brolin's involvement so I'm inclined to believe that this is on the level.

With Josh Brolin now confirmed for the lead of Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy and the vultures circling Christian Bale for the villain role the question of the moment is who will play Brolin's ["lady friend"] And sources are telling Twitch that the actress being targeted to play the character - renamed Marie in this version of the story - is Rooney Mara.

Of course even if she is wanted for the role there is no indication that she will take it. Word is that no formal offer has even been made yet. As anyone who has seen the original film or read the Manga on which it's based will know the role is a very complex one indeed. Mara is about to hit the big time with her role as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and should she accept this part she will continue in very dark territory. Horror fans may also remember Mara from another remake, the recent Nightmare On Elm Street. She has also appeared in The Social Network

For those unfamiliar with Oldboy..

Old Boy (オールド・ボーイ Ōrudo Bōi?) is a manga series written by Garon Tsuchiya and illustrated by Nobuaki Minegishi. The narrative follows the protagonist Shinichi Gotō, a man who, after a decade of incarceration in a private prison, is suddenly freed. After his release, Gotō must find his captors and discover the reason for his confinement. Old Boy was serialized in the Futabasha magazine Weekly Manga Action from 1996 to 1998 with a total of 79 chapters among eight collected volumes released during that time. The series was picked up for North American localization by Dark Horse Comics and released between 2006 and 2007. The manga was also adapted into an award-winning South Korean film in 2003.

Never seen the original, but I really want to, and watching that video SHHH posted makes me wanna watch it even more! I've only seen Rooney in The Social Network, but I thought she nailed her small role. And I am SO excited for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo!

as long as they keep 1. The hammer fight 2. The teeth pulling scene 3. The sex scene then its already 99% a success

The manga is far superior to the film and the reason behind the protagonist's incarceration is entirely different. It could still be crap, but it definitely has the potential to outdo the first movie.

Remake Deal With It ... Teeth Pulling Scene Better Be In There...

I'm not all about this remake. Because American versions of Asian horror/revenge films NEVER pay off the way the original source material does.
I truly think they'll leave out the ultimate, stomach churning reveal of the original that we find out at the end.
I believe the only "twist" the MPAA will allow is the twist with the antagonist.

This isn't a remake. NOT. A. REMAKE. It's based on the Manga. The Korean film (one of my favorite flicks ever) took MANY liberties with the source. I'm sure this one will too, but that's neither here nor there. It's going to be a (hopefully) different take on the source material.

I'm just happy Will Smith isn't involved anymore!

FYI guys the infamous twist was NOT in the manwha, so if they leave it out it will actually be MORE faithful than the original movie =P

Love her!!! From what I've seen of TGWTDT, she may be Oscar winner Rooney Mara by the time she films this....

No complaints. This remake will be amazing hopefully. Staying true to the original as much as possible will make this movie what it can be.
@MissMystique she's not supposed to be hot. She's supposed to have a quirky personality and a mysterious interest in Brolin's character, of which I believe Rooney Mara could portray. This character isn't like casting Black Widow or even Mystique from First Class.
