Four months after the initial teaser trailer for WIT Studio's Suicide Squad Isekai anime was unveiled, a new look at the project has been revealed to the public, revealing the identities of the Task Force X's full roster outside of Harley Quinn and the Joker.
The latest teaser confirms that King Shark, Peacemaker, Deadshot, and Clayface will accompany Harley Quin on her otherworldly voyage. You can view the new footage below.
What do you think of this Suicide Squad line-up versus the 4-man team of Harley, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and Deadshot that Rocksteady is unleashing in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?
For those who are not anime enthusiasts, an isekai is a type of manga or anime in which characters are sent to a different world, typically one with a high fantasy theme. As they explore their new surroundings, characters usually find that they have received overpowering magical talents or special abilities.
The isekai concept has taken over anime and manga in recent years, with many new works aiming to challenge preconceptions. Examples include protagonists who discover they have no special powers or have been transported to become the new Demon King rather than the hero upon arriving in a new world.
Eri Osasda will be directing the Suicide Squad isekai series for WIT, which features a screenplay written by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara, character designs from Akira Amano and Naoto Hasodo, and music from Kenchiro Suehiro.
Previously, WB Japan executive producer Hiroyuki Omor revealed to Anime News Network that development on the project started roughly four years ago.
"Was it three or four years ago? Though I have a vague memory of who approached who first... Warner Bros. Japan wanted to make an anime for a DC Comic title and then approached asking if Wit Studio would be interested in the project. Then, after Wit Studio considered it, they decided they'd like to join the project. Producer [Sho] Ohtani was especially interested and tried to develop the idea of what they could make the anime look like. So that's how the project started."
The project is still without an official release date but DC Comics has confirmed that the Suicide Squad Isekai anime will be released at some point in 2024. Will you be watching the series when it drops? Let us know in the comment section below.
