Yesterday, scooper Daniel Richtman reported that Avengers: Doomsday reshoots have now concluded, and some of the additional scenes did indeed feature the Scarlet Witch (it's not clear if it was Elizabeth Olsen or her stand-in) with "other characters like Sue Storm."
We weren't given any more context for what these scenes might entail, but Richtman and other scoopers have also been sharing vague posts and memes suggesting that Wanda might be in some sort of trouble when we see her again in Doomsday.
Now, we may have a little more to go on.
According to MTTSH: "They filmed a post-credits scene for Avengers: Doomsday featuring Wanda in her Scarlet Witch outfit alongside other heroes. Is she assembling a team?!"
We have previously heard that Wanda will only have a minor part to play in Doomsday to set up a much more significant role in Avengers: Secret Wars. Assuming these details are accurate, could she be unmasked as one of Doom's Latverian Witches in the stinger before forming a team of her own to seek revenge?
This is pure speculation, of course, but if VisionQuest really is laying the groundwork for a loose Avengers: The Children's Crusade adaptation (more here), it would make sense for an amnesiac Scarlet Witch to regain her memories before realizing that Doom was using her for her powers all along.
This could also open the door for Wiccan, Speed, and the other Young Avengers/Champions joining the fray in Secret Wars.
Many things can change between now and Doomsday hitting theaters, and the Russo Brothers clearly like to keep things flexible. Joe Russo admitted that they began shooting without a completed script during a recent interview with AP News.
“We always view the script as a living organism,” said the movie's co-director. “We’re improvisation-based, rehearsal-based directors. We like to see what the actors bring to the characters, and sometimes you don’t get the actors until a few days or few weeks before you shoot them. And a lot of the time, that’s when the magic happens.”
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were hit with significant delays last year, with Doomsday now set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars positioned for December 17, 2027.
Both movies will be directed by the Russo brothers, who also make their MCU return after helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
"Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered. This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Doomsday will star:
Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Florence Pugh as Yelena, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent
Along with Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Tenoch Huerta Mejia as Namor, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and, of course, Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
