Namor actor Tenoch Huerta Mejia was in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday evening as Marvel Studios took its familiar place at Hall H on Saturday.

Following the panel, Mejia gave some interesting remarks about two women in Namor's life that have close ties to the underwater king in the pages of Marvel Comics.  In Avengers: Doomsday, it seems those relationships will be explored in detail.

Up first was Namor's interaction with Sue Storm, played by Vanessa Kirby. In Marvel Comics lore, Sue and Namor have a close, and at times, romantic relationship, with Namor mostly engaged in a one-sided pursuit of Sue.

In the officially released footage, it's clear that Sue and Namor cross paths in the MCU for the first time in Doomsday, as it seems that the Fantastic Four will broker peace between Wakanda and Talokan (Atlantis).

When asked about Namor's reaction and first impression of Sue Storm,  Mejia stated, "This energy, this woman who is powerful...he's like, 'Okay, she's protecting her family, her world.' And she's a leader, and not a tyrannical leader. And in real life, when you know that kind of person, that's impressive."

"And for Namor, that happened with Sue. The Wakandans are there, and we are not enemies anymore, not at the moment, not right now. We need to join together to defeat this big threat. And everything happens because Sue Storm just pushes all the action in terms of Namor and this world..."

Doomsday Namor and Wakanda

Another comic book character that has an intense relationship with Namor in the comics and in the MCU is Shuri, played by Letitia Wright.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Namor and Shuri were developing a close relationship when he took her to Talokan, but that took a sharp left turn when Namor attacked Wakanda and killed her mother.

Now in Doomsday, it seems that relationship is evolving again, as Shuri will be the one to reach out to Namor and ask him for help in stopping Robert Downey Jr's Doom and the threat of what is believed to be an Incursion, a cosmic event from the 2015 Secret Wars comic book crossover where two universes/realities collide and both are destroyed.

On Shuri confronting Namor, Mejia stated, "These two guys, they have history, they have a story, and they hurt each other; maybe they hate each other. But maybe they can recognize themselves in the other's face. And from that connection, she asks him to make a big decision, a really, really hard decision. And because of her, because she says, 'You must,' he can understand and say okay. When your enemy tells you something like that, it's painful...but I'm here in front of you, humbly asking you to do this. Oh my god, as an actor, it blows my mind. "

Doomsday Namor

In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Doomsday stars Downey, Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Wesley Holloway, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Alex Livinalli, and Mabel Cadena, with Tenoch Huerta Mejía.

The film is produced by Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz, with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer.

Wasn't this guy accused of rape?
I couldn't find any current information on it.
Does anyone know if he's been charged?

@Feralwookiee - Social media accusations from an ex-girlfriend, but no charges filed. He said it was an extortion attempt after he dumped her.

@Feralwookiee - Whether or not he's committed a 'cancellable offense' I still think they should recast him in the reboot. An Asian Namor and mostly Asian Atlanteans would be in keeping with the original aesthetic established by Bill Everett back in the '40s.

@Feralwookiee - thing is, if memory serves, Huerta’s initial response to the allegations was dispassionate and almost apologetic. Have not followed the story since but he initially came off as dangerously close to outing himself

Also, funny how Majors got dropped like a hot rock within hours of the verdicts (based on the charge that he grabbed ger from jumping into traffic over near Mott St) but that Huerta, whose allegations were FAR more serious, and Jason Mitchell (Eazy-E in SOC) were welcomed back in to the fold pretty bereft of whatever controversies had been dogging their careers

Thank God we've finally got a second scoop of bearded Mexican NAHMOOR.

How many of the DEITERNALS are in this? It IS the end of the Universe, after all.

That's weird. Diversity sells tickets. 🤔

@Batmangina - yes, I can't wait for a movie about 5 white straight men in their forties trading crypto

@Yellow - that sounds like a dumb movie. Just as dumb as making Namor Mexican for vanity purposes. Could've been Asian and been more comic accurate.

@ModernAudience - I think showcasing an aztec/incan type people be advanced under water nation was smart and keeping in line wirh what coogler did for an African nation with wakandans. The history of the central and south Americans is almost as iconic as the Egyptians (pyramids, the mystery of it all). Its not represented in fictional media enough and cool to see. I think it was the smartest change rather than make Namor Asian looking. So what would his culture be.. Just Asian culture which we have seen so many times already... but underwater?

Making enamored "mexican" adds so many more layers to him due to the cultural influences they smathered over the Talocans in BP2.

I much much prefer it. Im excited even talking about it and cant wait to see more of it

@Vigor - black Panther being an advanced nation wasn't Coogler. It was Lee and Kirby and countless creators in the comics. Namor being mexican was Victoria Alonsos vanity. Not comic accurate. It was, is and will forever be dumb.

@Vigor - The difference is the Aztecs never developed a true navy, while most Asian cultures did.

@Feralwookiee -
The Africans also never developed ships that can go invisible or armor that absorbs energy

This is literally fukking fiction

As a ruler, and a strong and brutal one at that... I can totally see Namor being infatuated with a strong woman leader from another universe who achieved world peace on that one. I too would be trying to woo Sue. Even more so knowing her husband is kind of soft around the edges

Maybe this will push mr fantastic to be a little more assertive and masculine. Some good character development

Namor having a thing for a powerful woman like Sue especially in this iteration makes sense given she is essentially this world leader who is great at diplomacy while also being very beautiful aswell…

It seems like he joins because of her which again works since she is a peacemaker as we saw in Mole Man.

Anyway , i like Tenoch Huerta’s Namor so can’t wait to see him in Doomsday & beyond!!.
