Dormammu didn't make the biggest impact in
Doctor Strange, but his exchange with the Sorcerer Supreme was massively entertaining, and it's now been revealed that he very nearly made a brief return in
Avengers: Endgame.
As you can see from the script excerpt below, the 2012 version of The Ancient One was going to show The Hulk one possible future that would become a reality due to the timeline not having the Time Stone in it. This would have been a cool cameo for the villain and might have also helped to further explain the ramifications of Earth's Mightiest Heroes taking the Infinity Stones.
Rumour has it that Nightmare will be the lead villain in
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so chances are we won't see Dormammu again for a while.
There's definitely more that could be done with the villain, of course, but Marvel Studios has a very busy few years ahead and it's hard to say where he could fit into their plans. Then again, you never know with the MCU, and the fact that he nearly appeared in
Avengers: Endgame may have at least opened the door to him showing up somewhere.
