AVENGERS: ENDGAME Screenplay Reveals Steve Rogers' Age And What Year He Travelled Back In Time To

The screenplay for Avengers: Endgame was recently released by Disney (if you missed it, you can check it out by clicking HERE), and another interesting reveal has now surfaced.

At the end of the movie, Steve Rogers travels back in time to reunite with Peggy Carter. Now, it's been revealed that we were going to get a title card confirming that the sequence was actually taking place in "Washington D.C., 1949." That places it after the events of Agent Carter and four years after Steve was forced to say goodbye to Peggy over the radio.

Interestingly, on the page before, we learn that the elderly Steve Rogers who gives Sam Wilson his shield has "112 years of emotion on his face." That contradicts recent comments from Visual Effects Producer Jen Underdahl in which she mentioned that Captain America was supposed to be 106.

"112" wasn't pulled out of thin air, either. The Captain America: First Vengeance tie-in comic revealed that the hero was born in 1918 and that he went down in the Red Skull's plan when he was 27.

By the time Endgame took place, he would have been 38, because he came out of the ice in 2012 and after living from 1949 to 2023, the Star Spangled Avenger being 112 makes perfect sense!

Okay.....but were there 2 caps or not!!! Explain the Time Travel theory!!

@OptimusGrime - I think not. Cuz Cap doesn't give a [frick] about creating alternate timelines. If there was a chance he would always try to save Bucky and Howard, help Tony and prevent incidents like the holocaust and 9/11. He would not try to hide from everybody so that the timeline stay intact. Only people with no idea about Cap's ideology would think otherwise. Also old Cap refusing to help his younger self who is right now buried in the ice while he enjoys his life with Peggy will be the most [frick]ed up and evil thing in the MCU. He is basically stealing younger cap's life and leading him into a life of pain and misery. Plus according to the science of Endgame, Cap's traveling back in time would create an alternate timeline anyway.

@OptimusGrime - He is not the person who thinks "If I save Bucky and Howard, Tony will not become Iron Man and we won't be able to kill Thanos"
He is the person who thinks "I am gonna save Bucky & Howard right now and when Thanos arrives, We will think of something.."

@GaneshGaitonde - so question, why don't they count the years he was frozen? While he didn't technically live during the time he was frozen he was alive... Like born in 1918 lived until 2023 went back to 1949 and live to 2023... Technically he's around 180?
Gdub510
Gdub510 - 12/10/2019, 3:43 AM
@GaneshGaitonde - but I get why they made him look like 112 or 106 or whatever because that was the time he was awake
Vigor
Vigor - 12/10/2019, 3:49 AM
@GaneshGaitonde - I disagree. Cap has always been shown both in EMH show and MCU, to be altruistic in his choices. When Kang visited modern day to kill Cap to save his timeline, he willingly gave himself up. Not a selfish bone in his body. On one hand he can be wreckless with the time lines, such as when he told younger cap that bucky was alive. And yes he did go against the accords knowing full well it'd break apart the avengers, but he also is a man of his word. He promised hulk he would fix the time lines. I think despite the mess ups during endgame, he fixed things best he could during his adventures into the multi verse
Vigor
Vigor - 12/10/2019, 3:51 AM
@Gdub510 - it all depends on how you measure age. Do you measure someone's age simply by the passing of time? If so, then yes he'd be around 180. But if you measure age by age-adjusted telomere length, then you're taking a look at cellular age. When he went in the ice, his cells replicating and breaking down literally... Froze. so he came out the same age

Not if he put the stones back where they were meant to be an lived his life out in secret with peg. Knowing that yes the world has had monstrosities etc but ultimately it survives and that the avengers will soon be formed etc etc. Sounds like bullshit i know but its the only viable explanation!!
Origame
Origame - 12/10/2019, 6:00 AM
@OptimusGrime - well there are 2 explanations for it, depending on who you listen to. Theres what the writers have said, which is that its in our past, meaning cap would've had to retire to help maintain the timeline so technically both caps existed, just that only one was active. Then theres what the directors have said which is cap travelled to a parallel history where he used his knowledge of the future to change that reality. In that case there would be 2 active caps. But only 1 in our reality
Origame
Origame - 12/10/2019, 6:01 AM
@GaneshGaitonde - well given the time he travelled to he definitely didnt stop the holocaust. But 911 he probably did, implying he studied enough about that incident to know how to stop it.
Chewtoy

@OptimusGrime - @OptimusGrime - Even if Cap went to an alternate timeline and decided to change everything for the better, he might not have been able to rescue the Cap frozen in Ice.

The first question is whether he has the coordinates where he was found memorized... Howard Stark and others already searched for him and couldn’t find him. Even if he does, the next question is whether the crashed plane is there in 1950. He put it in the sea, and sea ice shifts and travels, it thickens and thins. Knowing where it was exposed and found 60 years later might not be enough to find it. And even if they do find frozen Cap, do they have the technology needed to revive him in 1950? SHIELD had gathered quite a lot of scientific knowhow in the next 60 years, and we have no idea how much of it was used to bring Cap back.

And that’s ignoring all of the other “What If?” Plotlines one could do. Maybe Cap tries to rescue his frozen self by telling SHIELD what he knows, but Zola acts first and the remnants of Hydra finds him instead. Maybe they revive him but are missing a component used in 2012 and it goes bad, creating a mentally unbalanced Cap. There are all sorts of ways that writers could clear Cap to stay with Peggy by keeping an active second Captain America off the board.
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 12/10/2019, 6:44 AM
@GaneshGaitonde - Cap could have decided that, while we was going around restoring timelines, that there was going to be one where he and Peggy got the life together that he always wanted. So he returned to her in 1949 and told her everything, with the intent to stay with her long enough to help bring back the Cap frozen in the ice. But despite the forewarning, the elements of Hydra growing in SHIELD had contingency plans for their discovery that they put into effect. Then there was a race to recover frozen Cap, and Hydra either got their first or destroyed the remnants of the ship, making the revival of a second Cap impossible.

Future Cap couldn’t bear to leave Peggy alone again to a world that would never again have a Captain America to defend it, so he ultimately stayed with her himself and together they made plans for dealing with everything that would come.

That’s the beauty of storytelling... you can work out any variation to get the outcome you need.

@Chewtoy - These are all very well-written reasons. It's also full-tilt Secret Empire to have a Hydra Cap.

But there is the most obvious reason why future Cap gets to be with Peggy that we've all just overlooked; "You snooze, you lose". Those are the rules.

Also, if younger Cap gets thawed early and he's okay and still in love with Peggy... well, I mean, it's not exactly cheating is it? If I were Peggy I'd be all "Hey, the more, the merrier!". Legal bigamy, baby!

Ok I just realized that the article only states 112 years of "emotion" so the rest is from the author. So Josh are you saying that the time in the ice doesn't count? He was still alive in hibernation from the ice and serum but he was still aging super slow. In previous movies that make older comments towards steve being in his 80's and 90's he has only had 112 years of conscious memories but in actual age he would be 186 after his time trip and return.
