We have no idea what to expect from Avengers 4 but set photos over the past few months have shown what appear to be flashbacks to the events of The Avengers. Among the moments we've seen covered are Loki's imprisonment and the battle against the Chitauri in New York City but while recent images pointed to time travel being involved, it's possible that there's actually a (sorta) simpler explanation.
As you may recall, Captain America: Civil War kicked off with a flashback to Tony Stark's past which we later learned was "Binary Augmented Retro Framing," a process which he explained could be used to revisit your past to get over old traumas (in Tony's case, that was the last time he saw his parents).
Now, a new Avengers 4 set photo shows that that will be making a return in the sequel and many people now believe that these apparent flashbacks are actually Tony (and maybe a few other members of the team like Ant-Man) using that tech to revisit key moments in the past to find a way to defeat Thanos in the present. Then again, it's feasible that he's mixing science with magic - an Infinity Stone in this instance - to head back in time but the presence of BARF here is definitely very interesting.
Don't forget that Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are reteaming with the Russos for the third and fourth time, so a plot point like this being carried over makes perfect sense. Do you have any Avengers 4 theories? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
