It's become clear that the Multiverse Saga is in a state of flux, meaning anything we hear about movies like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in the weeks and months ahead should be treated with a healthy dose of scepticism.
What we do know is that the latter recently lost director Destin Daniel Cretton and, if some of the online scuttlebutt is to be believed, the Kang-centric title may be next to go. There's a strong chance the clock is ticking on Jonathan Majors playing the MCU's latest big bad, with Doctor Doom a likely contender to somehow take the time-traveller's place.
The recent Loki season 2 finale did little to clear up where we're heading in this Saga, though some believe it at least laid the groundwork for Kang to quietly be dropped. As for the God of Mischief, he now sits outside of time and powers the entire Multiverse, giving every being in existence the free will they were robbed of by He Who Remains and his Sacred Timeline.
While there's a chance that will be the final time we see Tom Hiddleston as "God Loki," a new rumour has surfaced today claiming the character will have a "huge role" in Avengers: Secret Wars.
We'd take this with a pinch of salt considering the fact the movie probably doesn't have a completed screenplay. Still, Loki being front and centre may just be one of Marvel Studios' prerequisites for the Multiverse Saga's final chapter (explaining why Loki scribe Michael Waldron was initially brought on board).
The being with the power to power an infinite Multiverse being a big part of Avengers: Secret Wars is no great surprise, particularly as it's previously been claimed the movie will end with the creation of a new Earth-616 which serves as a soft reboot for the MCU. Perhaps most importantly, it will also add the X-Men to this shared world permanently.
Talking earlier this month, Hiddleston made it clear that there's a good chance he'll play Loki again.
"It's so hard because I'll be completely honest with you, I have at least twice in my life said goodbye," the actor said. "I've written to Kevin Feige and Louis de Esposito and Victoria Alonso and been like, 'Thank you so much. It's been like the role of a lifetime,' and they've written notes back saying, 'Come and see us anytime. You're always part of the family. We're always here. You've given us so much and tears have been shared.'"
"So I think I'd be unwise at this point to be conclusive about any of it..."
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow on May 7, 2027.
