Is Deadpool Crashing Avengers: Secret Wars? Marvel Better Give Him a Job, Not a Cameo!

A scooper says Wade Wilson is coming to Doomsday and Secret Wars. Marvel hasn’t said a word. If he shows up, he’d better be more than a punchline in a portal.

Picture it. Avengers: Secret Wars, December 2027. The multiverse is collapsing. Heroes from a dozen realities stand at the edge of oblivion. A portal opens, Ryan Reynolds strolls out, cracks wise about Marvel's multiverse paperwork, trades an insult with Wolverine and exits stage left before the plot has to make room for him. The theater erupts. TikTok erupts. And Marvel has just spent one of the most valuable characters it owns on an empty-calorie victory lap.

That's the version of this rumor that worries me, and the rumor is back. On October 6, scooper Daniel Richtman posted on X that "Deadpool will return in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars," a claim SuperHeroHype embedded the same day. That tells us what Richtman said. It tells us nothing about what Marvel is doing. Marvel Studios hasn't announced Reynolds for either film, hasn't confirmed Deadpool is involved and hasn't said a word about how big the part would be. Even 9to5Marvel's roundup the next day called Richtman's track record "mixed" and noted that no trade outlet has backed him up.

There's a second voice in the choir. Another account, MyTimeToShineHello, has reportedly claimed that Reynolds will have a major role in Secret Wars. When? Good question. 9to5Marvel attributes the claim to that account but doesn't quote or date the original post, and I couldn't find it either. File that one under "rumor about a rumor," the scooper equivalent of a photocopy of a photocopy.

If you squint, there's circumstantial stuff too. 9to5Marvel points to an Adidas Doomsday shirt with what looks like a hidden Deadpool, and to Reynolds telling reporters at TIFF last year that he hadn't been on set, the kind of carefully worded non-denial that launches a thousand Reddit threads. This summer, Reynolds told a Fanatics Fest crowd there will "eventually" be another Deadpool movie and teased "stuff upcoming," per Den of Geek. None of it is confirmation. All of it is catnip.

Here's the thing, though: the rumor makes narrative sense. Deadpool & Wolverine didn't just dust off an R-rated franchise. It dropped Wade into a TVA-sized multiversal crisis and made him care about saving his own world. That's a clean on-ramp to an Avengers-scale catastrophe without pretending he's been an Avenger all along. And the comics already told this joke. Marvel's own Secret Wars guide notes that Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars "un-erased" Wade from the original 1984 crossover, retroactively stuffing him into a story he was never in. If any character was built to point out how ridiculous a gigantic crossover is, it's the guy who already crashed one.

But self-awareness is a spice, not the entrée. Infinity War and Endgame worked because the jokes belonged to people with something to lose. If Deadpool turns every tragedy in Secret Wars into a bit about recasting, IP mergers or the size of Marvel's guest list, the grand finale of the Multiverse Saga becomes a highlight reel for opening-weekend clips. The danger isn't Deadpool being funny. It's Deadpool being given permission to announce that nothing matters, in the one movie where everything is supposed to.

Reynolds seems to know this better than anyone. He once told The Hollywood Reporter, as Den of Geek recalled, that "if and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we're at the end of his journey." Read that again. The man who plays Deadpool thinks putting him on the team is an ending, not a cameo. Marvel should listen to him.

So give Wade a job. He works best as the outsider who sees the madness of a broken reality for exactly what it is and fights for it anyway. Let him puncture the solemnity around gods, variants and world-ending exposition, then prove, when the movie asks, that the jokes were armor and not an excuse. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman already showed that irreverence and real affection can share a screen. A meaningful Secret Wars role would build on that, not substitute for the movie's heart.

That's also the only real answer to the cameo circus. A multiverse finale is going to have surprises, and surprises aren't the problem. The problem is when a movie mistakes recognition for drama, when an audience applauding a face replaces an audience caring what happens to it. Deadpool shouldn't be in Secret Wars because he's Marvel's most marketable mutant or because his entrance would break the internet. He should be there only if his history, his stake in a threatened universe and his gift for saying the quiet part out loud actually move the story.

So, is Deadpool crashing Secret Wars? Right now the evidence is one scooper with a mixed record, a second claim nobody can find the receipt for, a T-shirt and an actor who is extremely good at not answering questions. Avengers: Doomsday lands December 18, and Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027. Until Marvel talks, "huge role" is a headline, not news.

But if Wade does walk through that portal, Marvel had better have a reason. Secret Wars doesn't need Deadpool to make it louder. It needs him, if it needs him at all, to make the end of the world feel a little more honest.

I would be willing to bet my house he’s in at least one of these films and my car that he’s in both.
