Deadline reports that Marvel's The Avengers current international box office stands at $178.4M after its first five days of release in 39 territories. The film has seen the highest opening of all time in everywhere from Mexico to Brazil, Argentina, Central America, Peru, and Boliva, while Asian markets such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippines also set records. Record breaking massive openings are currently expected in nations such as Russia, China and Japan (and of course, North America on May 4th). As you can see from the Tweets below, it's beginning to look more and more likely that Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble will easily hit $1B.

@mystery - I was about to ridecule your notion of it ever taking AVATAR's throne until I looked up the numbers, I think it's $10mil ahead of where Avatar was internationally on opening week end. completely agree Avatar is over-rated sh*te so even the glimpse of this possibility excites me

I don't think you yanks understand properly but believe or.not the worlds actually bigger than the world. And if jack sparrow 4 can make 700+ internationally then I don't see why the avengers can't. Any ways the movie was so god damn awesome can't wait to watch it again.
