As Kang takes center stage in the Multiverse Saga, the MCU will formally introduce him to viewers in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kang is the antagonist played by Majors. Along the journey, he will undoubtedly see many MCU heroes, but there is one original Avenger with whom he would most like to appear on screen.
In an interview with Lifehacker Australia, Jonathan Majors admitted that he is a fan of Robert Downey Jr. and that he would be thrilled to see him return to the Iron Man role for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Majors also noted that it would be intriguing to see how the two characters would interact.
Majors went on to say, "This is like a Robert Downey Jr. day, he just keeps popping in [to my head]... Like, I know he's an OG. I mean, he's one of the originals. I'm just such a huge fan of him as an actor. I think what he did with Iron Man was such a gift to the culture at large. I would love to be across from him on screen to see how our philosophies, acting-wise and character-wise, just personally, match up."
The tremendous actor continued with, "You know, I find him to be such a fascinating artist, which is why Iron Man is so fascinating... His portrayal of Iron Man is so fascinating and he represents a very clear world view and energy of the Avengers. And I think Kang represents a different era."
The conclusion of the Ant-Man trilogy might have enormous implications for the rest of the MCU, opening up a plethora of options for Phase 5 prior to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Majors hopes that it might bring Iron Man back.
Kang the Conqueror faced off against Iron Man in the comics several times over the years, with their first encounter occurring in Avengers #8 in 1964. In this issue, Kang travels back in time to the 20th century and battles the Avengers, including Iron Man, in an effort to conquer Earth. Kang returned to face Iron Man and the Avengers on several occasions, including in Avengers #69-71 in 1969, where he attempted to take over the Earth by manipulating time, and in Avengers Forever #1-12 in 1998-1999, where he battled the Avengers across time and space. In each encounter, Iron Man used his intelligence, technology, and quick thinking to help defeat Kang and save the world.
Although Kang's entry to the MCU has been long in coming, Loki's epilogue provided only a fleeting glimpse of the character. Before Quantumania opens in theaters on February 17, if you haven't seen that episode yet, this is the ideal moment to do so.
