Rumor: MCU's Post-Secret Wars Avengers Team Revealed — And It Could Address Eternals' Biggest Mystery

Ghost Rider, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and more could be part of Marvel's post-Secret Wars Avengers team, but there may be one particularly interesting connection to a long-overlooked MCU storyline.

With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars set to conclude the Multiverse Saga, fans are eager to learn what comes next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, we may have discovered which superheroes will make up Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the franchise's next chapter.

According to insider James Mack (meaning this is best taken with a massive grain of salt on a slow news Sunday), the post-Secret Wars Avengers team will consist of Sam Wilson's Captain America, Iron Man, Vision, She-Hulk, Thor, Captain Marvel, Yelena Belova, Shang-Chi, Robbie Reyes' Ghost Rider, and Black Panther.

Hank Pym and the Wasp are also said to be part of the lineup, following rumours from multiple sources that the founding Avengers will be recast with younger actors in the next Saga.

While it would be wise not to take this too seriously, there are some interesting possibilities to consider if this is indeed the direction Marvel Studios is heading in after Avengers: Secret Wars.

For starters, the roster bears some striking similarities to the team assembled by Jason Aaron during his Avengers comic book run, which launched in 2018. That lineup included Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Black Panther, and Robbie Reyes' Ghost Rider.

Interestingly, Aaron's run placed considerable emphasis on the Celestials and their connection to Earth's history. Could Marvel Studios be looking to take inspiration from that storyline for the next Avengers movie?

It's certainly an intriguing possibility, especially when we consider that 2021's Eternals ended with several unanswered questions and a major cliffhanger. A follow-up has not materialised, and there's been little indication of when those characters will return. However, a new Avengers movie built around the Celestials could provide an opportunity to finally revisit those dangling storylines in a big way.

Another eyebrow-raising addition to the team is Robbie Reyes. Marvel Studios will release a Ghost Rider movie in 2028 revolving around Ryan Gosling's Johnny Blaze, so it seems doubtful that his successor would show up this soon and on such a big platform.

Instead, based on other online rumblings and what we've heard from our own sources, it's likely this team is simply serving as inspiration for the next era of Avengers. If so, that's one heck of a lineup as we head into a new Saga.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027.

@JobinJ - They will try their hardest to give Sam manufactured and inorganic “cheer” moments in either Doomsday or Secret Wars figuring this time we’ll win the fans over. But like taking a placebo Viagra, it’s not gonna do anything to get anyone off.

@Vigor - If only you thought for yourself and weren't brain dead 😂😂😂 its always about race with you dumb FK’s. I’d be just as against “Blade” being a “mantle” a d then hiving it to some white guy. Cap is a character NOT a mantle like Batman. Ill go very slowly because it’s obvious your dumb, Changing a popular character out (and this was dome for one reason alone) will never work. They tried to make Dick Batman and that didn't last either but of course that’s “Racism” too, huh? Yiu are a stupid FK

@JobinJ - Again, Steve Rogers is and always will be Captain America. I actually like John Walker’s redemption arc but U.S. Agent is a good character like Falcone was. No need for that. If they wanted to make him Captain something else that would be fine though

CreateNowSlpL8r - 11/8/2026, 1:09 PM
@Vigor - Disappointing. You aren't even trying with that one.

Steve Rogers is Captain Americs. Not Sam, not Bucky, Not John Walker. Sure, someone can take the mantle for a limited time but just like the comics, it always reverts back to the actual Captain America.

Same with Spidey, Same with Batman, Same with Superman, Same with Black Panther. We can keep going if you want.

Oh btw, the Avengers just relaunched and Sam isn't on the team. They launched ANOTHER solo run for him last year and thats over too. So in the comics, Sam doesn't have a comic. Hes not even in a team book. There is a Captain America solo and guess who that is? I guess Marvel is just a bunch of ists too right?

@CreateNowSlpL8r - So do you suggest they do a complete reboot and recast Steve Rogers? I can see that happening eventually. Or in some weird multiverse way.

@JobinJ - Evens is still young enough and looks the part to play Cap for at least another decade but if he’s not looking to do that a recast is a must. That said, the wrong actor can backfire and ruin the character just as easily as what they did with Falcap
JobinJ
JobinJ - 11/8/2026, 1:25 PM
@Bucky74 - But how? Complete reboot. They can just be open and say we are closing out this SAGA and rebooting.

These rumors seem like obvious predictability here that comes from a fan who guesses as a hobby for upcoming movie releases. Meaning, 85% of the scoopers who say they have a scoop are just playing around with predictions and AI prompts at this point.

There's no indication that there will be another Avengers movie after Secret Wars nor could we count on the filmmakers or Disney having a finished script since they haven't even began filming (that we know of) yet.

No new Avengers lineup, but rather crossovers that bring the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and other heroes back together.

“However, a new Avengers movie built around the Celestials could provide an opportunity to finally revisit those dangling storylines in a big way.”

But why? I wanted them to address Eternals’ cliff hanger as much as most of the people who liked the movie (I thought it was great), but it clearly isn’t something Marvel wanted to get into, I guess after the film didn’t get the support they expected.

They’re doing a semi-reboot of the MCU after Secret Wars, they don’t need to bother with any dangling plot thread going forward and I imagine that’s what Kevin and co. are looking forward to. Picking up plot points from a pre-Secret Wars timeline makes little sense.

if antman and Wasp get recast and both join the team officially, great.

about damm time the Avengers team has 4 female members. because as of now, seems like the Russos and Feige dont care about female avengers. And that is NOT ok.

T’Challa as black panther is cool, blade is cool, storm and okoye and rhodie are cool, heck even Miles Morales as Spider-Man is cool, but there is nothing cool about Sam Wilson as Captain America. It’s laaaaaame just like it was in the comics. Shuri as BP, also lame.

I might be the first to say it, but I like Sam Wilson Cap. The story arc in the comics is pretty awesome and the problem in MCU is that it just wasn’t adapted very good at all. The only thing that was done decently is his suit, but in the comics he never gave an impression of trying to replace or replicate Steve Rogers. The idea of an Avengers movie focusing on the Celestials could be really cool, but I think that the adaptation of Sam Wilson Cap has been a failure and might be better done at another point in the future MCU

@Brand0nD42o1 - I'm obviously a huge Cap fan. I'm also an outspoken critic of how quickly they went to storylines like Winter Soldier and Sam Wilson as Cap when they had HUGE volumes of material they ignored, but I understand the limits of too many storylines with aging actors. All that said, I love Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson and I hope they keep him as Cap and keep Steve Rogers as Rogers or Nomad or whatever makes sense. It's too soon to give up on Mackie as Cap. He is VERY good. His standalone movie was a little clunky as the director wasn't quite up to the task, but the star power was great and the story was good too. He can carry a movie. He just needs the Russo brothers, lol.

They have no idea who is going to be on the team. I am guessing they rest the brand for a couple of years anyway. They have an entire slate of movies coming out. X-men, Ghostrider, Black Panther 3. I would guess a FF sequel comes out as well before we see an Avengers team.
