Last week we relayed a rumor that 90210 actor Kevin Pennington landed a three picture deal to star as a yet to be named S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in Marvel Studios' upcoming films. The interesting thing about this tentative role is that Pennington's character is rumored to be "a character that could or could not have been in SHIELD or Avengers before – and fans love this character."

Pennington has been keeping his fans updated on the status of this role via his Twitter account; and so far the has remained very vague due to an obvious confidentiality agreement. He did, however, state in a round-about way that he will not be portraying Marvel scientist Hank Pym (aka Ant-Man), and also that we shouldn't expect him to sport "undies over spandex." Another statement from Pennington, "big movie deal does not involve a mask covering my face," has made a few fans jump to the conclusion that he will definitely not portray the Marvel comics character Clint Barton (aka Hawkeye); though that statement in itself is inconsequential since the fan favorite archer didn't always wear a mask.

The site who reported the original information has just posted an update to their insider scoop. It is a list of Marvel characters, one of which Pennington will apparently play:

- Agent Barton (Clint Barton/Hawkeye)

- Agent Reynolds (Robert Reynolds/Sentry)

- Agent Jones (Rick Jones)

- Noh-Varr (Kree alien Marvel Boy)

- Agent McKenzie (Namor McKenzie/the Submariner)

- Agent Summers

- Agent Guthrie (Samuel Guthrie/Cannonball)

- Agent Quartermain (Clay Quartermain/Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Before fans get too excited that they may be closer to finding out Pennington's role, the following message from his management agency makes the information we've been told questionable. Solace Management, who also represents Captain America actor Chris Evans, stated the following via Twitter (and relayed by Pennington himself):

"Please don't believe what you read on the internet, esp. from 'inside sources.' Half of it is false. Very excited for Kevein Pennington though!"

Considering that we've received four separate 'scoops' from two different sources, it appears at least two of them are false. After the Captain America movie casting fiasco had fans in a two-month long frenzy, it's definitely a safer bet to wait for official announcements regarding casting confirmations.
