Speculation of the Day: Is Ms. Marvel on Marvel's Avengers 2 Drawing Board?

A plausible theory that might lead to a Ms. Marvel maybe appearing in a certain Marvel sequel, a bit soon and unannounced, possibly. We get that this isn't set in stone, right?

So, granted, I don't have much evidence to bring up the point that Joss Whedon, Kevin Feige and others have sat down and said, "Yes, let's bring Carol Danvers onscreen." However, I will look at the facts in the following respects:

1. People still don't believe that Black Widow in the first film did an adequate job of holding her own on the Avengers' roster.
2. Joss Whedon didn't get a chance to make his Wonder Woman film.
3. Item 47

Now, you might be looking at that last point and scratch your head saying, "Huh?" Well, if you didn't know, Item 47 is a one-shot, short film about a couple that decides to rob a bank using the Chitauri weapons left behind after the events of The Avengers. If you know anything about Ms. Marvel, then you know she's got a pretty heavy back story that hasn't been touched on, yet, in the movies. It involves the alien species of the Kree and how, after sustaining injuries in an Kree-explosion, she ultimately gets her powers. In fact, here's the Wikipedia short-version of her introduction in the 1960s:

"So?" You may be thinking to yourself. Well, remember all the speculation about who the alien threat was going to be in The Avengers, and how for a long time, people suspected either the Skrulls or the Kree? It ended up being a turn-around in that Whedon decided to use the Chitauri, because they needed less set-up. Here's what I'm thinking (and you may chalk this up to irrational, fan-boyism):

Item 47 obviously shows the after-effects of what happens when Chitauri weapons and technology are left out in the open. It shows two people taking advantage of this once they get it to work. So, who's to say someone can't have an "accident" with this newfound technology, sustain injuries from it, only to wake up and reveal they now have cosmic powers? Sound familiar? It'd be an easy way not only to tie in Ms. Marvel to the short film, but to give Whedon a chance to work with the Wonder Woman character he never got with Warner Brothers.

I'm also aware that adding another character to The Avengers 2 is adding another player into a team that not only houses Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Thor, Bruce Banner, Natasha Romanov, Clint Barton, and Nick Fury, but also may end up including the Guardians of the Galaxy, Rhodey from Iron Man 3 (as Iron Patriot), and Falcon from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That's a packed house, already and those are already solidified characters, so only time will tell.

It's pretty rampant speculation, and I don't want to come off as some raving fan-boy, but I desperately want Ms. Marvel to join up with the boys, and this seems like a pretty adequate way to do it.

Throw me your thoughts. If you disagree, how would you go about it?

Well I'm all for Ms Marvel joining up with the Avengers - her solo series was kind of lame, so I really wouldn't be excited about a solo movie.... BUT.... because of how cramped the roster would be in the Avengers sequel, it might not be a bad idea to give her a movie beforehand.

I think we'd need to break the formula A LOT, however.

Ms Marvel is a product of the Kree, and the Kree (unlike the Skrull) is with Marvel Studios. The Inhumans, which may not have the largest fanbase but has been on the Marvel menu for awhile... are also a product of the Kree.

Trouble is, the Kree's only interest in Earth is to use it (in some capacity) against the Skrull Empire - and 20th Century Fox owns the latter. The Inhumans were genetic mutations designed to be sleeper agents for a war they had NO idea about. Carol, as you pointed out, got close to a Kree spy and ended up changed.

What are the Kree without the Skrull to plot and war against? Would a substitute race be acceptable?

To be honest I was hoping to see some more solid theories. You admit that you might be over-the-top with your fandom so I'm not trying to fault you, I would just really like to see ms marvel also and I don't have any solid ideas if my own lol. So I was hoping you could kick start me.

I disagee that black widow didn't hold her own. I think Disney disagree also because they're about to make her one of the highest paid females in Hollywood. Scarlet and black widow are likeable on their own, combine the two and you're guaranteed success. But avengers 2 desperately needs another female presence. If only for political correctness. I would love to see her and black panther OR giant man and wasp. We should end up with all 4 by the end plus Vision, and if hulk ever gets a sequel then She Hulk should be in A3 also. That should be the MCU team - Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Wasp, Giant Man, Black Panther, Ms Marvel, Vision, She-Hulk, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage if they can introduce Heroes for Hire in a movie or their TV show.

Doctor Strange and GOTG also for A3: Infinty Gauntlet.

But back to your point... Still no idea how to intro Ms Marvel. Probably have to do it in Gotg or SHIELD.

If Carol Danvers is going to be in the MCU, it will be as Captain Marvel instead of Ms. Marvel (I can explain this if need be but I think its obvious).

If her new ongoing series and appearances are highly successful and continues to do so (no sign of going down or cancellation even after Avengers 2). They may just give her a solo after Avengers 2 and similar treatment as Captain America (as in a solo and leading a team in Avengers 3).

Other options would be Cameos/guest starring in other solo's or [Avengers]sequels as Carol Danvers before she got her powers to introduce her and get/gauge audiences reaction to her. Her own solo may or may not come later.

Unpopular opinion: Non-comic audiences may view a female captain not getting her own solo while a male captain getting a solo kinda sexist. Is this likely to happen? Probably not, but you never know for sure. So why take the risk. ;p

@AcidicHeart If Carol Danvers didn't become Captain Marvel then I can see her being Ms. Marvel in the MCU.

1- Avengers Assemble is a jump-on-point comic for moviegoers and Carol will be in it starting from #9.
2- She has her own ongoing.
3- She will be part of the Avengers comic on issue #1.
4- Guest starring in other big comics (e.g. Amazing Spider-Man #694)

All this as Captain Marvel! So if she has a movie, Marvel doesn't need to do much comics side or at least very little since they already built a foundation for her.
If she has a movie as Ms. Marvel, they would be going backwards and the audience wont have anything current produced for Ms. Marvel out of the movie. Plus they may see Captain Marvel(Carol Danvers) as a separate character all together.

Another thing I want to add. It would be a huge marketing coup if Marvel made a Captain Marvel film. As far as the general audience is concerned, there would only be one Captain Marvel (and even if they learn of others later, none of them would matter more than Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel).

I had no idea who Captain Marvel was until I started reading comics after watching Avengers. First one to me was Mar-Vell. Then I came to learn about the rest.

@Tainted Fox doesn't own the Skrulls. This has already been clarified by multiple people at Marvel. The Skrulls, like the Scarlet Witch and a few others, are considered "shared" properties; being that either company can use the characters in their own movies but they must stray away from making any direct mentions of characters owned by the other company.

That being said, I think that Ms. Marvel will make it into the Marvel Film Universe. But which version? Does she take her more well known story and become Ms. Marvel? Or is something more along the lines of the Ultimate version of the character and maybe takes Sam Jackson's place after his deal runs out?

Here's my thoughts on Phase 2. After seeing the line up, I personally can't think of a way NOT to have Carol Danvers in it. Remember, I said Carol Danvers, not Ms Marvel. We will not see her get the powers until Phase 3. If they want to be true to the character, they will not make her "Captain Marvel" until Phase 4. Here's my thoughts.....

It will be hard to see a big space battle with Thanos in the Gaurdians of The Galaxy and NOT see the Silver Surfer. The Surfer is owned by Fox so we know that we will not see him. However, there is only 1 cosmic character that can take the place of the Surfer, Mar-Vell. Having Mar-Vell in the storyline opens the door for another legendary Avenger that fits right into the plot, Carol Danvers. So expect to see the Ultimate version of Major Danvers in Guardians along with Abigail Brand, SWORD and the Kree. Either Carol or Mar-Vell will be the ones to warn Fury and SHIELD about the dangers of Thanos causing the Avengers to "Assemble" once again. Also, expect to hear Rhodey talk about an old friend from the Air Force with a call sign of "Cheeseburger" or "Warbird" in Iron Man 3 to foreshadow an upcoming "Ms Marvel". They might even have a brief appearance of Carol Danvers (similar to the Hawkeye appearance in Thor). Expect to see Carol Danvers and Mar-Vell in Phase 2 but the "Death of Captain Marvel" and "Ms Marvel" getting her powers will not happen until Phase 3 because the current Marvel movies rely so heavily on the Ultimate Universe. Plus, Ms Marvel needs her own movie to show her origin and this is where they can build on those keys to the character.

I also think Thanos will appear in Thor 2. In The Avengers, "The Other" told Loki "If you fail, if the Tesseract is kept from us, there will be no realm, no barren moon, no crevice where he (Thanos) can't find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something as sweet as pain". "He" obviously never got the Tesseract. Loki is in Asgard to answer for his crimes. Where is the Tesseract and the Infinity Gauntlet? Odin's treasure room. The appearance of Thanos will not be part of the main storyline in Thor 2 but these points will have to be addressed, possibly in an end credits scene.

One last thing, Mar-Vell would be crucial to Phase 2 since there is no Silver Surfer. We all know the Surfer's role in the Infinity Gauntlet. So near the end of Avengers 2 when Thanos has wiped out all the Avengers, Mar-Vell will be the one to put the universe back together again. I think this is where he will get cancer causing his death in a later Ms Marvel movie. Another way to do this is that Mar-Vell will die while putting the universe back together and Carol Danvers will get her powers at the end of Avengers 2 during his death. That will lead off very nicely into a Phase 3 Ms Marvel flick.

This is all a guess but I've given this a lot of thought.
