The original Batmobile from the Batman TV show was sold at an auction in Scottsdale, Arizona this weekend. This ties the record set by the Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger, which was sold in 2010.

George Barris, a legendary Hollywood car customizer, designed the car in 1966 in just 15 days. It was built on off a 1955 Ford Futura and cost $15,000 to build. The car has been in Barris' personal collection since the show ended and was purchased by Rick Champagne, who is a businessman and car collector.

I didn't attend this year, but have a friend who photographs a lot of the major and celebrity events here and he said the car doesn't look that great up close and in person, but it is the original Batcar!

....yes, way to go Durf! Can't see any possible reason for them to pull this one. If they do, I better keep my mouth shut, so I am not accused of being a complainer again. :-P

My Top 5 from movies
1)Batman/Batman Returns
2)Tumbler
3)Adam West's Jet Powered Beast
4)Batman Forever
5)Batman and Robin from 1949.

Yes the Forever piece of garbage is dead last on the list.

WOW! Can you imagine being the owner of that? This is stupid of me to say, but I would drive that bad boy everywhere!

I mean, it's the original Batmobile!!!

@Durf Congrats on making it to main! Great stuff! And I like the new avatar. Kate Upton is the gift that keeps on giving. :)

@Ghostfire I like your avatar too, but it's hard to compete with Kate Upton. ;P

It would be cool to own an iconic vehicle like that. There is a custom shop- the article was here like a year or two ago,I think- that would build you a repro Batmobile for quite a bit less than this car cost, but there is something extra-cool about owning the original.

@aztecRaingod I very respectfully disagree about Kate Upton. She has danced her way into my heart. :)
