The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Winston Duke is about to make the leap from Wakanda to Gotham City by taking on the lead role in Spotify's Batman Unburied audio series. The Black Panther star will play Bruce Wayne, and he's set to be joined by Harry Potter's Jason Isaacs as Alfred Pennyworth.
No other casting details have been made available, while a release date also hasn't been set yet.
The Dark Knight screenwriter David S. Goyer penned the podcast which is part of an overall deal between DC and Spotify that's set to also see characters like Wonder Woman, Lois Lane, Catwoman, The Riddler, and Batgirl receive the spotlight down the line. It's a cool concept, and casting Duke is a great move on DC's part as it's easy to imagine him delivering a badass take on Batman.
Here's the Avengers: Endgame actor's reaction to the news:
"When audiences meet Bruce Wayne he is a forensic pathologist, working in the bowels of Gotham Hospital and tasked with examining the victims of The Harvester, a gruesome serial killer preying on Gotham’s citizens," reads the logline for this reimagined take on Batman. "Not only will the superhero be forced to face his own mental demons, but he will also have to overcome them in order to save the citizens of Gotham as his alter-ego Batman."
