Ben Affleck Seems Keen On Directing A Solo BATMAN Film

Academy Award winner Ben Affleck states that he would have never thought he'd want to direct a superhero film prior to starring as Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

When Warner Bros. unveiled their massive DCEU film slate which spans all the way to 2020, many fans were puzzled that  a solo Batman film wasn't on the release schedule. WB has since confirmed that Batman will receive another standalone film (and that Henry Cavill's Superman will star in Man of Steel 2) but that film currently doesn't have a release date.  It's likely because Batmans and Superman serve as anchors for the entire DCEU.  Batman is already confirmed to appear in David Ayer's Suicide Squad (Aug. 5, 2016) and is rumored to appear in Wonder Woman (2017).  The Dark Knight will also appear in Justice League Part One (2017) and Justice League Part Two (2019).  Fitting in a solo Batman film while co-starring in 4 (possibly 5) films over the next 4 years would be tricky to pull off.  Nevertheless, Ben Affleck states that watching Zack Snyder on set while filming Dawn of Justice was inspirational.

"I’ll just say going through the process, I would never have imagined that I could or would direct a movie like this. And in working with (Batman v Superman director
Zack Snyder) and seeing what he did and watching him every day, I got really inspired by that and by seeing the scope on which he was telling the story, by seeing what he was able to do with this kind of mythic story on a grand scale."

It's not an outright yes but it's pretty close.  "I got really inspired" would imply that Affleck is going to take action, right?

Back in July,  Affleck was previously said to be in negotiations to star and co-write the next, solo-Batman feature with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.  But will he pull off the hat-trick and direct as well?  Perhaps we'll have more substantial news after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in the United States on March 25th?

Deadline reported on him directing it with Geoff Johns and him writing... I think it's safe to say it's happening.

it will be interesting to see Ben and Jared together in first solo Batman movie (if the rumours are true). Still, i'm not sure about this whole Redhood thing. Is Jason (or some other guy) dead and they are going to bring him back with Lazarus Pit ? Or is he not dead and Joker kept him alive via Arkham game (as i recall).

@BatmanHeisenberg They said he was in negotiations to co-write and star and "possibly" direct. Nothing was confirmed and the report was written to convey that Affleck directing was the most tenuous possibility of all.

I haven't disliked a single movie Affleck has directed so far.

@AntMan That's the rumored plot of the film. Jason Todd returns as Red Hood and frames Batman for crimes he didn't commit.

@MarkJulian Please God be true. My favorite DC character is Red Hood (yes, I know, he's almost ALWAYS written terribly, but he has the potential to be the DC's Punisher)

Hmmm, I think David Ayer should direct the solo Batman movie. The best thing about this year is that we'll be seeing two incredibly different takes on Batman (Snyder and Ayer)

@MarkJulian

I believe they said he was contractually required to direct at least one Batman film. I may be wrong, it's been a few months since I've read the report. But I think for the most part, he is a lock for the Director's chair.

And oh yeah, they're totally going for Red Hood. They've already hinted at it in BvS

Jared Leto is probably contractually obliged to do a few more DC movies. He wanted to be Dr Strange, so he clearly would have been fine with a contract. I'm positive he wants, and/or WB wants him for more films. He is most likely returning.

I agree with @TheRationalNerd to let Ayer direct just to keep the Batman world cohesive. But if SS sucks then yes Affleck ;)

i liked DC animated movie like Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights and (probably the most) Superman: Unbound. Geoff Johns was ivolved in the making process of all of this animations so i have no problem with him writing first Batman solo adventure movie.
