When Warner Bros. unveiled their massive DCEU film slate which spans all the way to 2020, many fans were puzzled that a solo Batman film wasn't on the release schedule. WB has since confirmed that Batman will receive another standalone film (and that Henry Cavill's Superman will star in Man of Steel 2) but that film currently doesn't have a release date. It's likely because Batmans and Superman serve as anchors for the entire DCEU. Batman is already confirmed to appear in David Ayer's Suicide Squad (Aug. 5, 2016) and is rumored to appear in Wonder Woman (2017). The Dark Knight will also appear in Justice League Part One (2017) and Justice League Part Two (2019). Fitting in a solo Batman film while co-starring in 4 (possibly 5) films over the next 4 years would be tricky to pull off. Nevertheless, Ben Affleck states that watching Zack Snyder on set while filming Dawn of Justice was inspirational.
"I’ll just say going through the process, I would never have imagined that I could or would direct a movie like this. And in working with (Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder) and seeing what he did and watching him every day, I got really inspired by that and by seeing the scope on which he was telling the story, by seeing what he was able to do with this kind of mythic story on a grand scale."
It's not an outright yes but it's pretty close. "I got really inspired" would imply that Affleck is going to take action, right?
Back in July, Affleck was previously said to be in negotiations to star and co-write the next, solo-Batman feature with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. But will he pull off the hat-trick and direct as well? Perhaps we'll have more substantial news after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in the United States on March 25th?
