According to a new report from
The Wrap, Golden Globe-nominee Andy Serkis (
Black Panther) has joined the cast of Matt Reeves'
The Batman in a key role.
Serkis will portray Bruce Wayne's (Robert Pattinson) loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth (Colin Farrell is also in talks to play The Penguin, and you can read more about that
HERE!)
The pair join a cast headlined by Robert Pattinson, who will suit up as the Dark Knight, and will also feature Zoë Kravitz (
Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano (
There Will Be Blood) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler and Jeffrey Wright (
Westworld) as Commissioner James Gordon.
As for who fans should expect to hear about next, Variety's
Justin Kroll notes that Harvey Dent is the next major role expected to be cast, and that someone from the cast of HBO's
Succession had initially been approached. In a Tweet, he says, "
a certain member of the "Roy Family" was asked to play the Dent role but they ended up passing."
Matt Reeves is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin (
Little Fish). Production is expected to commence at the end of 2019 or early 2020.
The Batman hits theaters June 25, 2021.
