THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Weighs In On Robert Pattinson's Condiment King Hopes For The Sequel

During The Batman's press tour, star Robert Pattinson made it clear he would like his Caped Crusader to battle Condiment King, and director Matt Reeves has now shared his thoughts on the comedic villain!

Condiment King first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series, with The Joker using mind control to force Buddy Standler to adopt the ridiculous persona. No one took him seriously, and the villain's threat to douse unsuspecting restaurant patrons with hot sauce didn't exactly terrify the masses.

Like Harley Quinn, the character eventually made the leap to the page where he was renamed Mitchell Mayo. He also wasn't taken overly seriously, but did seemingly win a fan in The Batman star Robert Pattinson.

The actor gushed about the character while promoting the 2022 hit, and while we find it hard to believe he'll ever be included in the R-Rated franchise, director Matt Reeves has now weighed in. ComicBook.com asked the filmmaker if he has any villains in mind for The Batman 2, prompting him to bring up Pattinson's love for Condiment King.

"Oh gosh, I don't know. I really couldn't answer that because I really don't know, and also people are going to be rampantly speculating," Reeves responded, careful not to give anything away. "I will say that to me the funniest thing that Rob [Pattinson] did the last time that we were on the press tour is that he kept talking about how great he thought it would be if we did Condiment King because he loved the idea of somebody just dousing somebody in mustard."

"I won't commit to saying that Condiment King is going to make a reference but I'll just use that as an answer to your question because I don't have an answer to your question."

There may well be a way to write Condiment King into this movie, but we're not banking on Pattinson's gruff vigilante allowing a costumed thug to cover him with mustard.

Still, you never know what kind of Easter Eggs will be included, and with it now confirmed that the "Batverse" will live on despite DC Studios' own DCU plans, Reeves is free to continue telling the stories he likes. Whether the DCEU relaunch will have its own Caped Crusader remains to be seen.

The Batman sequel is currently being written, but doesn't have a release date.
