Despite the massive changes that have been made to the DCU by Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios, Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise will live on. We don't know whether the filmmaker's ambitious plan for several villain-led HBO Max TV shows will come to fruition, but The Batman II has been confirmed, as has The Penguin.
Cameras have now begun rolling on the latter, and for those of you who have been living under a rock an iceberg, it will see Colin Farrell reprise his role as "Oz" to fill in some of the gaps between The Batman movies as the villain rises to power in Gotham City's underworld.
Thanks to Mail Online, we have a first look at the actor's return as the iconic baddie in the form of photos and video from the show's New York set (which is currently doubling for Gotham City).
We don't learn much, but The Penguin was spotted wearing a rather striking purple blazer and looking every bit the mobster. Farrell remains covered in prosthetics, though those understandably haven't changed much since we last saw the character.
Dexter: New Blood star Clancy Brown is the latest edition to the already impressive cast, with the trades confirming he will play Salvatore Maroni. It's also been rumoured that Robert Pattinson will show up as the Dark Knight, something that makes all the sense in the world with his sequel fast approaching.
Elsewhere in the cast, we have Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell.
We can't share the photos or footage here, but that can be found at Mail Online or by following the link in the Tweet below.
The Batman II is set to be released in theaters on October 3, 2025. The Penguin, meanwhile, will likely premiere on HBO Max sometime in 2024.
