THE BOYS Star Jensen Ackles Is Developing His Mystery DC TV Series Alongside Veteran Producer Greg Berlanti

Jensen Ackles has a lot on his plate right now, and as well as developing a Supernatural prequel, he's also working on a DC TV show. It's now been confirmed that he'll work on said show with Greg Berlanti.

If you're a fan of the Arrowverse (or The CWVerse as it's now known), then chances are you're familiar with Greg Berlanti's name. The prolific producer has served as an EP on everything from The Flash to Titans, Supergirl, HBO Max's upcoming Green Lantern series, and even planned pilots like Gotham Knights and Justice U.

Back in January, Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles revealed, "There is a DC property that I'm currently developing right now with Warner Bros. and some other good partners that I've got my fingers crossed for." Since then, speculation has run rampant about what this mysterious project might be.

The prevailing theory among fans is that it could be Red Hood-related. Ackles voiced the vigilante in an animated feature several years ago, and has even cosplayed as Jason Todd on social media.

Now, we know that one of Ackles' "good partners" is Berlanti. In a listing for this year's SXSW event (shared via Screen Rant), a description of the actor notes that "Jensen is also developing an Untitled DC Project with Greg Berlanti." This is the first we've heard of his involvement, of course, and it likely means this is a TV show rather than a movie that's destined for The CW or HBO Max.

Ackles will next be seen as Soldier Boy in The Boys, but he's also developing a Supernatural prequel, The Winchesters, for The CW. The actor had also shot a part in Rust before production was shut down after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins' tragic death.

We'll keep you updated as we learn more about this DC series!

@dracula - I think he has more duds and from what I understand, and I may be wrong, Todd Helbing really drives Superman & Lois creatively and he's written a lot of episodes too.

@BlackBeltJones - Helbing used to work previous on Flash during it's 4th and 5th Seasons. No one was excited about him working on a new Superman series because he also had his own duds during his time as showrunner and yet he turned out to be a good choice.

As long as someone as Scott Buck is not involved in any Arrowverse project, they should be good.

I did hear about his secret DC project but not that he was working close with Berlanti on it. Thought he would be a lot more closer to the former Supernatural and current The Boys showrunner since they worked together in the former and now he got the Soldier Boy role kinda thanks to Kripke.

I got nothing on what it could be, maybe it is a Red Hood project or Grifter since I know almost nothing about the character and I always like to know a new one through Arrowverse shows, if it is gonna be a new addition. Or maybe it won't be.

With that said I'm not so enthusiastic about the stuck in development hell GL show Berlanti is doing in HBO Max, not when it is rumored to have a "Watchmen tone", for me it sounds like a recipe for disaster just like with Titans. I'm much more interested in Gotham Knights and getting Justice U get a pilot order soon.
