THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' David Gyasi Reveals Actors He Is Sharing Screen Time With

David Gyasi is a British actor on the rise and currently starring in the BBC drama series White Heat. His career was floundering, but an unexpected audition with Christopher Nolan has him headed on the right path.

While promoting his television series David opened up about some of his upcoming projects. One of them being Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. During the interview he talks about the auditioning process and how that moment marked a profound change in the trajectory of his acting career. He also revealed that he will be sharing screen time with Tom Conti and a wee bit with star, Christian Bale.

So, from that information what can common sense tell us about David's role in the film? Well, we can pretty much identify Tom Conti as the actor that explains what the chanting is to an inquisitive Bruce Wayne. Christian Bale asks, "What does that mean?" and Tom Conti replies, "Rise." In the brief glimpse Conti is blurred, but his voice is as distinct as Kermit the frog. So, my best guess is that David will be imprisoned just like Conti and Bale.

The speculation is that this setting is a prison for Gotham's wealthy citizens. Pair that up with the scene involving a man trying to hide under a antique desk, and you could assume that the rich folk in Gotham are going to be terrorized by Bane.

I read you have a part in The Dark Knight Rises - how did that happen?
I was in the States doing pilot season last year, and this audition came up, with this amazing monologue that I was sent. I had to put myself on tape, and I learnt it, worked on it for days and nights and went in there and performed it for this casting director. He was just like, dude, I would like you to come back and read for Christopher Nolan. I said yes I can. I went in, and I met Christopher for the audition; I was really nervous, and shaking. I was staying in LA with an actress who said to me, David, if you feel anything in an audition, just embody it into the character. So I used it, and then I didn't hear anything for three months. I got back to England and got this call saying, are you sitting down? I got told by both my American manager and my agent over here they want to use you on The Dark Knight [Rises]. 24 hours before, I went on a young walk with my son, then three, and was just thinking, what is the best way for me to provide for my family? Because we'd come through a tight period, and I was wondering if I could continue acting. I had spent a lot of money going to LA. So to get that call was such a godsend, and such a sign. Because I was questioning myself and my ability. The next day, White Heat came through as well! For me, Dark Knight was much more about that moment, about answering questions about whether I could work globally, and also to be able to go in front of a director like that, and for him to say yes, you're the chap I would like to use. That was life-affirming.

Can you tell us anything about your role in The Dark Knight Rises?
I can tell you a little bit about my experience. I didn't get a script, so basically I had the audition in my head. I arrived on set, and Christopher Nolan was giving me the lines I had to say. He would literally say, this is what just happened, and this is what you're reacting to. I know absolutely nothing! I know that sounds like a cop-out, but I was there, and I worked with Tom Conti and a little bit with Christian Bale, but I was there on a need to know basis. I'm hoping that I'm still in the film, as I'm a fan of the films, so I'll be watching with vested interest!

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Garly Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

As many times as I've watched the trailer and seen that picture I just noticed that gray patch on the side of Bruce's head.

Hey @MrReese, calm down man... relax! You're talking like you've been stalked by a bunch of psychopaths or something! But i understand you... so much hate on CBM, specially on TDKR threads.

You don't have to worry about The Dark Knight Rises because it will do better than its two previous films.

Going by what we have seen in the trailer, prologue and set reports, im assuming Bane turns up and creates class disparity/warfare between the rich and the poor. He turns up at the football game telling gotham to take control of its city. Selina tells Bruce (rich guy) that a storm is coming and the effectively the rich need to worry. The stock exchange is ransacked and workers are kidnapped. and then it seems a load of the rich are taken from their homes and exiled to a prison (thats where tom conti's character and bruce wayne are in the "rise" scene)

there have also been reports of scarecrow acting as a form of judge, jury and executioner, exiling gothamites or forcing them to risk death crossing an icy river.

aparently there were scenes shot in new jersey where people are held up in a government building made to look like a temporary hospital like in a warzone. and looking at scenes of john blake (JGL's character) it seems that in the winter the streets are completely dead while banes camo tumblers are patrolling the streets. looks like bane has the city on lockdown and the rich locked up.

sounds more interesting than an alien invasion to me lol

thats what im taking from what is known (though not all confirmed thus far).

what does everyone else reckon?

Prison for the rich people??? Then tell me why in the blue hell would rich folks chant "Rise" in some foreign language? Doesn't make any sense. I might be wrong but I suspect Bruce will retreat in a foreign country to heal his wounds after his fall before Bane. He will heal, train, then come back as Gotham's savior. Remenber, it will be an epic war movie. The hero needs to fall in order to get his great hero comeback.

TDKR doesn't need to be hyped like The Avengers!!! It has TDK and it's success to sell it.Let Marvel flood the market place with cheap airbrushed pin ups ripped of from toy packaging.TDKR doesn't need that shit.It sells itself!

I think NOlanites are the least secure people. They already are a fan of a proven franchise that is not only critically but financially successful.

Hard core Marvel fans seem to be a little more sensitive, and understandably so. They have a relatively unproven director when it comes to feature films, and the last two Marvel movies didn't exact set the world on fire nor got people talking outside of the comic book community. I expect The Avengers to be really good and do really well, but there is no dying the hardcore fans are much more on edge and feel like they have something to prove as opposed to hardcore Nolan fans.

Seriously im sure this movie is going to be great, but I kinda feel like it wont surpass TDK, I mean, you cant top the Joker, you just cant. But maybe it can.

Even if it does make more money, I dont know if it will be regarded as being better than TDK

As for the article, not much new here. Anybody that paid attention to the trailer knew they were rounding up the wealthy citizens of Gotham and putting them in a prison.

"His career was floundering, but an unexpected audition with Christopher Nolan has him headed on the right path."

*Chuckles to self* In all reality a bit part in TDKR is not going to make or break anyone's acting career. If he landed some type of lead role, that statement might not be quite as much of a stretch as it is.

To each their own, but I liked BB better than TDK.

Could someone explain to me how it can logically be concluded that it is Tom Conti in that scene with Christian Bale where Bale asks "What does that mean?" The other person looks exactly like Michael Caine and sounds exactly like him and does not look like Tom Conti. Are we to assume that since Gyasi was in a scene with both of these guys that somehow he happened to be involved in this particular scene from the trailer? I doubt it. To my knowledge, we know nothing about Conti's character or why he would be in this scene. Gyasi never even says he was in the prison either. I could be wrong, but I don't think the guy in that scene was Tom Conti. I'm fairly certain that it's Michael Caine.

@lbfan84

look at the photo from the scene, even out of focus its obviously not michael caine and his voice isnt the same either, his voice is much deeper and a very different accent. by the look of the photo that guy has a tan like bale in the scene.

Guys remember in TDK when Dent says

"One day best Batman will have to atone for the laws hes broken, but to us, not this madman"

Looks like its going to happen

I freaking love how Nolans bringing it full circle with references in the past. Like in BB where Alfred goes "Don't land on your head". Its all gonna come back
