Which Hero Has The Best Villain's Gallery?

Which Hero Has The Best Villain's Gallery?

Not including Batman, which hero has the best bad guys? Find out my thoughts below.

Is there anything more evil than comic book villains?  Many say that the hero is actually defined by his or her villains, and there are a lot of great villains for every great hero.  For this, I am automatically counting out Batman's rogues, since they are all pretty much number one on everybodys villains.  Now, this isn't actually a "list", more like just me saying a few heros that I feel have a great gallery of villains to make them look better.  Before I start, here are some hero's besides Batman I won't be mentioning due to a few different factors, not necessarily bad, just not "great":  Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Green Arrow.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man is known for a lot of things, his villains being one of them.  The biggies include Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Venom, Lizard, Rhino, Mysterio, Chamaleon, and many more.  Most of his villains, from what I understand, are created through scientific means, just like Spider-Man himself.  Also, his villains are people he knows as Peter Parker in some cases, adding more to the drama and making it a lot more interesting when he has to tackle one, or six, of them.

Flash (Barry Allen)

Honestly, Flash's villains are probably my favorite rogues, which is funny because that is what they call themselves!  They include Professor Zoom/Reverse Flash, Captain Cold, Heatwave, Mirror Master, Gorilla Grodd, and Captain Boomerang.  What makes them so cool to me is how cartoony they are!  We shouldn't be able to take them "seriously", yet they have in fact stood the test of time!  What I also like is that the Rogues actually have a code and ethics, and they refuse to kill innocent people, making them different from other villain team up groups, like the Sinister Six or the Suicide Squad.

The Fantastic Four

We are really getting a treat this year if they're new movie doesn't flop!  The Fantastic Four actually has some of the most evil villains in the Marvel Universe!  Doctor Doom, Galactus, the Frightful Four, Kang the Conquerer, and the Mole Man are to name a few.  Marvel's First Family really does have a lot to deal with!

Superman

The Man of Steel has a lot of enemies to deal with, and as he is probably the most powerful superhero ever, his villains must show that as well.  His villians, like Batman's, are some of the best and most recognizable in DC, and include Lex Luthor, General Zod, Doomsday, Mister Mxyzptlk (one of my favorite villains), Bizaro, and Metallo.  Again, these villains are amongst some of the best in DC, and will continue to be around hopefully for a long time.

The X-Men

The X-Men villains are, again, some of the most powerful in Marvel.  Magneto, Comander Stryker, Sebastian Shaw, the Hellfire Club, and Sabertooth are extemely popular, well known, and very powerful.  The thing about the X-Men villains that I like is that there is so much variety!  We have Stryker, who is for human rights, Shaw, who is for Mutant superiority, and Magneto, who is looking for equality at any means necessary.  The balance is quite nice and makes for an interesting dynamic.

Well, those are the who I feel have some of the best rogues!  I know that there are many other hero's with good ones, but I really don't have enough time to study all of them.  And remember, above all of these heros and villains, Batman has the best (my opinion of course).

Thanks for reading, if you enjoyed, show some love and hit the red thumb!  Thoughts?  Comment below!  Have a good one, peace out.

I would definitely not include Flash's in the best. Spider-Man and Batman for me.

But then again, I think Magneto is the best CBV ever so I have to include the X-Men somewhat.

thumbed up my friend @dannramm113, great article!!!

I think you did a smart choice by taking out batman foes as they are the best of all comic book dom I also think Joker is the best only rivaled in the pop culutre by Darth Vader itself and that by itself says a lot about this gallery.

I hope your article gets main, it is really cool, cheers!

Personally, I think Superman has the potential to have an suburb rouge set, but I find they are never written all that well and haven't been fleshed out all that much with a couple of exceptions.

For instance, Parasite should be a great villain, a person Superman can't use his powers to beat, meaning he has to show some smarts, but is underused. Metallo, is an example of the effects Superman's battles and mere pre scene have on the human race, so when fighting him, Superman should be torn as he'll also want to save him as just facing him should make him question what he is doing.

Zod, is a good villain, but this is why having other Super Characters (Super Girl, Superboy) etc is a bad idea, as Zod is the only physical connection to his race and thus him being Superman's polar opposite should really give us some of the better character moments as he has to defend the planet, while trying to bond with the only other Kryptonians he knows. So having the other Super Characters takes away from that conflict.

Anyways, like I said Superman should have, but doesn't because of the poor use so I would give it to Spiderman

honorable mentions:
green goblin (Dafoe)
joker (Nicholson)
zod (Shannon)
ra's al ghoul (neesons!)
they were close... buuuut.. not total justice to the comic book counterpart.

as for this guy:

total badass, but very strayed from the comics and his last scene ruined everything

@cinnamon

I made a list like that about two years ago (with the release of Iron Man 3 and the pre-trevor Mandarin hype). Maybe I'll do one again before Age of Ultron, although I can't see too much change, my mindset has changed since last time.

I think it is a tie between spider man and batman

Batman has more iconic villains
Spiderman has more of a variety of good to great villains

Top two are without a doubt Batman and Spider-man it really isn't even close with any other superhero. X-men and Fantastic Four both have really good rogue galleries with each having their own central villain that makes all their other rogues better by comparison with Magneto and Dr. Doom respectively.

@Thebest20

Well he can't read very well when he went off on the OP that he didn't include Batman's rogue gallery even though the OP said best rogue galleries not including Batman's.

@SonofBatman
Well honestly what could I say about Batman's villains that hasn't been said a million times before? His rogues are extensive, well writen, differentiable, creative, evil, misunderstood, tragic, and everything else good about villains. He has The Joker, Ras al Ghul, Riddler, Two Face, Freeze, Catwoman, Man Bat, Red Hood, The Court of Owls, Callender Man, Falcone, Maroni, etc. Honestly, including all that would be a cliche. So i decided to let the reader use what they've seen a million times before and apply it here.

@SonofBatman

Why does he need to include it on the list when he says in the first paragraph he believes most people automatically have Batman's rogue gallery as number 1. Maybe you should learn to quite your internet nerd rage over perceived wrongs when in actuality he has the same view as you on the subject. Your like a dog attacking one of it's legs or tail because it thinks it is something else but in actuality it is only hurting itself.

Batman in a landslide, followed by Superman, Spider-Man and Flash.

The X villains are pretty intense. Magneto, Apocalypse, Hellfire Club, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Centinals... I mean the list goes on. In any bad guy conversation the Joker automatically elivate's Batman's rogues. The rest are great but Joker is literally one of the top 3 baddies of all time with Darth Vader and Hannibal Lecter. As a whole though I think Xmen and the Fantastic Four. Galactus and Doom are on every top 10 bad guy list, or they should be. I would also so that Wolverine has a great rogues Gallardo as well. Everyone hates on him now but the Reavers, Deathstrike, Sabertooth.. there's some quality badassery there.
