WONDER MAN: Bob Odenkirk Breaks Silence On Rumors He Was In Talks For MCU Role

Following rumours that Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk was being eyed for a lead role in Marvel Television's Wonder Man, the actor has revealed whether there was any truth to those claims.

When Wonder Man was in the early stages of production, rumours swirled that Ed Harris, Bob Odenkirk, and Courtney Cox would be part of the cast. None of them appeared, meaning we don't know how much truth there was to those claims.

With the benefit of hindsight, it's easy to imagine Odenkirk taking on Joe Pantoliano's role as a fictional version of himself, and Cox appearing on the set of American Horror Story in place of Ashley Greene. As for Harris, perhaps Von Kovak?

In an interview with The Direct, the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star was asked about rumours he'd been eyed to join the MCU with Wonder Man, which was recently renewed for Season 2.

"No, no, no, no, no. 'Wonder Man,' that's the new one, right? I saw a billboard for it. And it looked great," Odenkirk said. "No, I've never heard that [rumor]. That sounds like fun."

Seemingly having a change of heart after previously suggesting he wasn't "built for that world," the actor confirmed he would be open to joining the MCU if asked. "Surely I would. Yes. So many great actors do it, and they're great people. Kevin Feige, I did speak to him once. Good guy."

"And I love what they're doing," Odenkirk added. "I love how hard they work at making their universe work, building it out."

It would be a blast to see the Nobody star join a future Marvel movie or TV series, especially as he's more than proven his dramatic, comedic, and action credentials. While Odenkirk confirming he's met with Feige is interesting, it clearly wasn't for Wonder Man and was likely just a general Hollywood meeting.

While Wonder Man Season 2 is officially in the works, no plot details have been revealed, and there's no word on when shooting will begin. With Marvel Television eager to deliver yearly series to Disney+ subscribers, a 2027 launch can't be discounted.

Wonder Man follows aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams, who is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns that legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film "Wonder Man."

These two actors, at opposite ends of their careers, doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.

As a reminder, in our review of the series, we wrote, "Yahya Abdul-Mateen II steals the show in this delightfully original two-hander about friendship, acting, and being true to yourself. Wonder Man is the cure to superhero fatigue and the most original MCU TV series since WandaVision."

All eight episodes of Wonder Man are now streaming on Disney+.

Proving they can meet their Hollywood agenda quotient and make a good show if they try hard enough.

Blind Disney pig finds acorn.

@EscapeMySight - I think he'd make a great twist on Arcade. Have him trying to look like a gameshow host with a 70s twist.

I'd also love to see him play Scsrface's ventriloquist in S2 of Penguin or a Batman film.

@KennKathleen - Odenkirk as Scarface's Venntriloquist in the Reeves-verse!? Now THAT is inspired casting!!! I love it! He’d be so perfect for that! Excellent idea!!

@EscapeMySight - The more I thought about it, the more I liked it as well. I'm happy to know that the casting choice didn't... escape your sight. 😏

He should play Phil Coulson's brother, Jack Coulson. Have him be a failed Shield Agent that never made it through training then got into Private Security.

I think the showrunner Andrew Guest said that they considered a bunch of actors for the show so I could see Odenkirk’s name (alongside Courtney Cox & Ed Harris) being thrown around and some scooper heard about it from his source and ran with them being in the series.

Anyway, it would be great to see him in Wonder Man S2 or the MCU in general tbh…

I feel like Odenkirk would make a good Neal Saroyan who was Simon’s agent in the comics but in actuality was an assassin with mind control powers and a leader of a criminal syndicate so that could be a fun role for him imo!!.

I was a Mr Show fanatic in college, and it's been so much fun to see Bob grow into this esteemed Hollywood Character Actor.

@TheVisionary25 - Nobody 2 was . . . fun? A little more comedy than the original (at least to the best of my recollection, I saw it during a time when I had a tendency to have a few too many drinks before movies.)

Normal looks interesting! Looking forward to what follows Nobody and Normal (Nothing? Nowhere? Null and Void?)

@TheAmericanHero - Yeah, man, I had a second hand VHS dub of Seasons 3 and 4 in college, and it was in constant rotation at my apartment. Definitely snapped up the DVDs as soon as they dropped. A lot of the stuff hasn't aged particularly well, but man oh man did that show shape my comic sensibilities back then. I used to joke that should carry a card that said "It's a Mr Show Joke" on one side and "It's a Simpsons Joke" on the other.

I think he could have been a great J Jonah Jameson or Bryan Cranston

@Matchesz - After watching a cranky and mustachioed Kevin Bacon in the Jon Watts directed "Cop Car", and learning that Wats was going to direct the (then unreleased) MCU Spider-Man film, I was convinced that Kevin Bacon would be the perfect MCU's J. Jonah Jameson. They obviously went another route and Bacon even appeared in the Guardians special, but I still believe it could have worked.
