WONDER MAN Is The Best-Reviewed MCU TV Series In FOUR YEARS Based On Rotten Tomatoes Score

The first critic verdicts for Wonder Man have arrived, and it's now the best-reviewed MCU TV series since 2022, and the second highest-ranked show on the review aggregator.

The Wonder Man review embargo lifted late last night, with Disney bringing it forward from January 26. While we'll be bringing you a roundup of verdicts later today, it's worth noting that Marvel Television has just broken what many consider a four-year "slump" for the MCU's streaming offerings.

As we write this, Wonder Man has a 96% score based on 24 verdicts, making it the highest-rated live-action Marvel Studios TV series since Ms. Marvel in 2022 (98%). This places it above WandaVision (92%), Hawkeye (92%), and Loki Season 1 (92%).

The five shows mentioned above are the only live-action series to score in the 90s since Disney+ launched in 2019. Since Ms. Marvel's release, MCU TV show ratings on Rotten Tomatoes have ranged from Secret Invasion's 52% to Daredevil: Born Again's 87%.

Marvel Animation's offerings have fared a little better, with X-Men '97 sitting pretty with an eXtraordinary 99% score on the review aggregator.

Is it too soon to call Wonder Man a critical hit? A few more reviews will need to be counted before the show can receive "Certified Fresh" status, but it appears that heading down a different route with the Andrew Guest and Destin Daniel Cretton-led series clearly a win for Marvel Studios.

In our review of the series, we wrote, "Yahya Abdul-Mateen II steals the show in this delightfully original two-hander about friendship, acting, and being true to yourself. Wonder Man is the cure to superhero fatigue and the most original MCU TV series since WandaVision."

Check out some highlights from last night's Wonder Man premiere in the X posts below.

Wonder Man is created by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsSpider-Man: Brand New Day) and Andrew Guest (CommunityHawkeye).

The series stars Emmy Award winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, who reprises his role as Trevor Slattery following appearances in Iron Man 3Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and All Hail the King. Arian Moayed, X Mayo, Zlatko Burić, Olivia Thirlby, Byron Bowers, and Demetrius Grosse also feature.

Wonder Man follows aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams, who is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns that legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film "Wonder Man."

These two actors, at opposite ends of their careers, doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.

All eight episodes of Wonder Man will stream exclusively on Disney+ at 6pm PT January 27.

Anyone have the receipts for all the people that said this show would be rubbish?

@CyberNigerian - IMO, these reviews don't mean much since Ms. Marvel has a 98%. Now, I think Iman Vellani gives a 100% performance and her family were great on the show (I never cared for Kamala in the comics, but Iman made me want to see more of the character.) But the writing was not good. The villain was terrible. The middle episodes of the series are a slog to get through. The finale had some fun moments but was otherwise forgettable and poorly executed. It does not deserve the 98% it got. I have zero hype for Wonder Man, but I'll have to check it out eventually to see if this is the same kinda deal as Ms. Marvel's odd scoring.

@TheFinestSmack - for the style of show it was, Ms. Marvel absolutely deserved it's review score.

@TheFinestSmack - I think I got through episode 3, or maybe partway through it before deciding it wasn't worth continuing.

@CyberNigerian - I put more stock in how I feel about a show I’ve watched and audience reviews than paid critic shills who fawn over just about everything.

Ridiculous textbook Disney race swap aside, this looks like one of those quirky indie shows for snobs I’d never watch. It may in fact be a good (or bad) but it seems like there is a small audience for a show like this. Then again, Wanda Vision was pretty good, so who knows. Disney hides its ratings and uses the Netflix trick of “minutes watched”

@TheFinestSmack - take note that most of the disney+ shows before were reviewed with only the first few episodes. Ms marvel had a great ep1 (being directed by adil and bilal) and the worst ones were in the middle so it might be the reason of that very high rating.

Not sure if this is the first where all episodes were available for critics. I also dont see this being good but ill check it out too

@CyberNigerian - As always, I'll reserve judgement until I myself have seen it. There's are no other me's out there, as far as I know, and I haven't encountered my doppelganger. Only you know what you like.

@CyberNigerian - When the likes of Ms.Marvel is at 98%.

This means absolutely nothing,Ms.Marvel is shit and so will this.
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 1/23/2026, 12:33 PM
@vectorsigma - That is a good point. Ms. Marvel started strong out of the gate and got weaker as it went. Finale got a lil better but overall I wasn't feeling it. But if I had to grade based on episode 1, I'd have given it at least an 80-85%.

IAmAHoot
IAmAHoot - 1/23/2026, 6:18 AM
The reason people gave me (all but one) for why they didn't think the show looked fun was because of the pattern recognition for the MCU shows that dropped all episodes at once... The logic behind that barely adds up given what was actually being asked.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 1/23/2026, 8:29 AM
@IAmAHoot - Yup and the same folk tend to say the numbers for the one episode drop shows were low compared to the 8+ episode drop of another services show without looking at what that meant the average per episode was of the latter. I mean we even had that line in an article about Fallout that the one episode of season 2 didn't have as many mins viewed as the full series drop of series one thus asked if that meant it flopped which to me the answer on ave numbers (and quality of the show) was a firm NO!

Weekly drops work for some show where the talking tween is as important, sometimes more so than the episodes themselves but other shows all at once works better. IF that is the reason for trying other things at Disney or IF it is more about trying to have a more fair shake at getting into top ten streaming numbers against the far more subs Netflix who almost always drops all or at least big batches I have no clue and don't care TBH.

All I care about is if the content is worth watching (even if not great, fun but middling is fine) however I wouldn't have ever have wanted WandaVision dropped all at once as the discussions here each week around it were great (even if it DID get too carried away with Mephisto theories and the like) but there are ample long form film types where they'd have been far better dropped all at once and little gained from weekly drops.

TLDR Some shows work better weekly, some better in batches or all at once, more platforms need to think hard about which is better for a given series and base decisions on that ONLY. Long as a show is good it shouldn't matter to use which and shouldn't read to much into things all the time to predict good/bad and instead wait and see and judge for ourselves.

Nice! Sounds like they delivered on what was promised here. Cant Wait to see it myself. Also, Destin Daniel Cretton is becoming a high commodity for Marvel. Hope he delivers with Spiderman and Shang Chi 2
