So is this going to be considered part of the new "canon"?

I'm still ticked that alll the novels, graphic novels, etc. have been rendered worthless :(

In Marvel's case Disney owns them, but they are their own thing. With Star Wars, Disney directly owns them but Marvel is the one who does the Comics. So it's not Marvel's Star Wars Comics, it's Disney's Star Wars done by Marvel
