Avengers books have dominated Marvel sections of comic book stores everywhere since the release of The Avengers in 2012, and now the Guardians of the Galaxy are following suit. Groot is the latest, with a new monthly series set to launch this July. According to Mashable, newcomers Jeff Loveness and Brian Kesinger will team up for the series. Loveness has written for Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently penned a team-up between Captain America, Spider-Man, and the Inhumans. Kesinger is a former Disney Animation artist. Here's the official solicitation text from Marvel:

When Rocket and Groot are on an intergalactic roadtrip and calamity strikes, the two get separated — and for the first time in years, Groot’s on his own! Written by comedic ace Jeff Loveness ("Jimmy Kimmel Live!") and drawn by Marvel Comics newcomer Brian Kesinger (Disney Animation), get a front row seat for EXPLOSIONS, SPACE SHARKS, ALIENS, AND INTERGALACTIC HITCHIKING (YEAH, BABY! YOU READ THAT RIGHT)! Whatever may be coming Groot’s way, one thing’s for sure — it’s going to be a GROOT adventure!

I like Groot, but he is the last character deserving of a comic.

Unless there are a tonne of thought bubbles rather than "I am Groot"s, then this is gonna suck.

Good art, but why does Rocket look like he's from a 90's animated show on PBS? Love that Groot logo too. So cool and fun looking. I won't be reading it though because I could barely get through the Rocket Raccoon issue where Groot told a campfire story.

lol Rocket has that 90s Disney saturday-morning cartoon look. Remember those days? Duck Tales, Tale Spin, Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers... sigh.

Sure, why not? All we need now is a Drax solo and all the Guardians will have their own book.

They can whoop on all the space sharks they please but, if they harm ONE space dolphin, a certain "someone" is going to get INCREDIBLY pissed off and start fraggin' bastiches!

Marvel Comics. Where any movie property they own that catches on even a little bit(or a lot in GoTG's case) will be pushed to the forefront and shoved down your throat in printed form. They're trashing decades of continuity to remake the comicverse into the MCU FFS.

That bitching aside, I like Groot. Him going solo seems forced and rather stupid though.

Marvel's comics have really gone to shit. Thank god their movies are still awesome for the most part.

@Snowbird23 I personally think this is awesome. I love when Marvel or DC put out a comic that takes comedy to the front while action is still their it just happens to be in the passenger seat. It is a nice change of pace sometimes in a very serious world.

That cover art is AWESOME. Not just the skill of the drawing, but the actual pictures content. Its dope.

Groot is best as a supporting character, especially with the way all he says is "I am Groot." I thought he was working fine w/ Rocket in his series anyways.

Milk that cash cow Marvel. MILK IT!

How can you have a solo book with a character that says only one thing?
