Alexander Armstrong best known for his comedy shows with Ben Miller and hosting of BBC's
Pointless has been announced as the new voice of "Danger Mouse" in the upcoming reboot of the series. Describing the casting, Armstrong said it was
"about as close to a dream job as you could wish for".
He takes over the role famously filled by Sir David Jason in the original series and is joined by Kevin Eldon as the voice of "Penfold".
The original series ran from 1981 to 1992 and told the story of "Danger Mouse" a mouse (no surprises there) who worked as a secret agent. This time around we can expect to see a more gadget laden "DM" who will sport a multipurpose 'i-patch'.
Armstrong has some pedigree in voiceover work, not only providing his dulcet tones to many advertisements but also played the super-computer in Doctor Who spin-off
The Sarah Jane Adventures and "Professor M" in the animated series
Tooned.
The new series also stars Shauna MacDonald, Morwenna Banks and Dave Lamb as the narrator. It is set to air in 2015 and will run for 52 episodes.
