UPDATE: ABSOLUTE BATMAN Reveals A Twisted First Look At The Redesigned Absolute Poison Ivy

February's Absolute Batman will finally introduce the Absolute version of Poison Ivy, but is her redesign as drastic as what we've seen from characters like Bane and The Joker?

UPDATE: A new Mark Brooks cover for Absolute Batman #17 reveals a closer look at the Absolute Universe's take on Poison Ivy.

Absolute Batman continues to put a wild new spin on the Dark Knight's world, and that's set to continue next February with the long-awaited debut of the Absolute Poison Ivy.

A first look at the character has been revealed today, thanks to Björn Barends' exclusive variant cover designed exclusively for East Coast Comics. This isn't as drastic a redesign as the Absolute versions of Bane, The Joker, and Harley Quinn, but it is still undeniably intriguing.

As you can see below, leaves appear to be growing out of Ivy, while her body is seemingly scarred or tattooed by chlorophyll. Plants also seem to be sprouting from her hands. That should make her more than a match for this hulking version of Bruce Wayne.

Guest artist Eric Canete will join Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder for this two-part Poison Ivy story. The description for issue #17 reads, "Absolute Poison Ivy sinks her teeth into Ark-M!  Dr. Pamela Isley has been unleashed from the Ark-M facility with an unending hate and burning fire for revenge on Gotham City, and those who put her in the belly of the beast."

"When Batman hunts her down, he must survive a labyrinth of leveled horrors, one more gruesome after the next," it continues, "as he tries to save the city from a monster it created."

As for Absolute Batman #18, DC Comics has revealed, "After the explosive reveal ending last issue, and Batman continues to fight Poison Ivy's mutated monsters and winds up uncovering an even more gruesome horror that has embedded itself in the city's very foundations. All while the Joker's machinations start to coalesce in a partnership with a new ally."

The Absolute line has proven to be a sales hit, beating the main DC Universe titles and many of Marvel's biggest books. Essentially DC's version of Marvel's Ultimate Universe, it's been an absolute winner of an initiative for the publisher that continues to expand.

Teasing this story arc on social media, Snyder said, "ABSOLUTE BATMAN 17 & 18, February and March, is a special 2-part story by me & the amazing @EricCanete that has Bruce face off against our version of Poison Ivy! But expect a couple surprises in 17 big enough DC is redacting the covers for 18."

Check out this first look at Absolute Batman's Poison Ivy below.

As we are now about to witness the 4th Spiderman movie with Tom Holland, that has allowed us to see an alternate back story for Peter Parker with him in a world of heroes, and see how he learned to harness his spider sense and make close friendships and save the world a few times...

I hope we eventually can get a batman series in the same vein. 5 or 6 movies going from year two on through to old man Bruce Wayne and passing the ball to Terry
Let's see Robin and batgirl and all his villains and team ups with justice league.

Its wild how popular of a character batman is, we haven't gotten a long series with a connecting story. Theres more alien movies. More predator movies. Than there are consecutive batman movies

@Vigor - Reboot mentality sadly. Everyone thinks they've gotta put a new take on Batman and send him back to the early part of his career.

They need to start making CBMs like James Bond films in order for this to happen. Not worry about hard continuity, not worry about recasting of your lead actors. Just rotate the actors out when their tenure is done and change the vibe with a new actor, but maintain a very very loose sense of continuity.

I feel like if Burton hadn't killed his 2 main villains you could've done it with that series, even with the shitty schumacher films. Just recast/revamp Riddler and Freeze and them if they ever came back, tell new stories that only vaguely allude to the events of the previous entries.

@IronSpider101 - They should def just keep Pattinson and then we'd have exactly this; A Batman who goes from Year Two, gritty street level, all the way up to fighting with the Justice League as an older batdad/batgod-level superhero.

Any version of Poison Ivy where she's an elemental works for me.

Not just a girl in green Lycra with a weed fetish.

She looks cool. Hot from afar but the creepier you get the creepier she looks. I also like how she's more colorful than other versions. That being said, I'm happily surprised because I thought that the Ark M girl was Ivy.

That's just a more colorful Ivy. I'm getting disappointed the female villains are getting tame redesigns while the guys like Joker, Freeze, Bane, Croc all look like Dragotta was reading Lovecraft before putting pen to paper.

@1stDalek - She was a wall of wooden flesh back in issue #10, so I'm guessing she can transform.

@InfinitePunches - Interesting, I hadn't thought that was Ivy herself.

If they're all radical redesigns, are any of them?

Looks like Ivy.

How much do you want to bet that this version is still queer? They would never think about changing that part of the character…

@Puckaluck - why does it matter? What’s wrong with her being gay?

I would like Poison Ivy to be the sole survivor of a race, part of the region's folklore from before the deforestation that preceded the construction of Gotham City.

She lay dormant for over a hundred years, and when she awakens and sees the monstrous gothic metropolis rising from the ruins of her people, she seeks revenge.

@Repian - An entire race of beings, who had a special connection with nature, were exterminated during an ethnic cleansing carried out by an invading civilization. The city rises on land where innocent blood has been spilled and on bones.
