Wonder Woman: DC Comics Reveals New Creative Teams Following Tom King's Divisive Run

Since her debut in 1941's All-Star Comics #8, Wonder Woman has stood as a champion of truth, compassion, and equality throughout the DC Universe and beyond.

Princess Diana of Themyscira has lived many lives, but her commitment to peace and justice has never wavered. Recently, DC Comics announced plans for 2027 as the "Year of Wonder," including plans for Wonder Woman's new creative teams. Now, we have additional details.

Louise Simonson writes DC's main Wonder Woman series for the first time, beginning with Wonder Woman #41 on January 20, joining acclaimed artist Cian Tormey for a new four-issue story that establishes a bold new status quo for Diana and her world.

In Simonson and Tormey's story, Wonder Woman is determined to abolish the Amazon Safety Act and clear the way for her sisters to return to the shores of Man’s World. But after everything they have endured, are the Amazons ready to return, or have they given up on saving humanity from itself?

"I haven’t written many books with female leads, and they don’t come any more iconic than Diana," Simonson shared. "Teaming her up with Lois Lane, another iconic character, is a dream come true. Throw in Granny Goodness and her Female Furies? It doesn’t get more fun than that."

Following Simonson and Tormey's four-issue story, writer Stephanie Williams and artist Elena Casagrande take the reins for an all-new six-issue arc continuing the "Year of Wonder" through October 2027.

Williams returns to Diana’s world after contributing four issues to DC's Wonder Woman series in 2026 and co-writing Wonder Woman 2026 Annual: Wonder War – The Matriarch Special #1. Together with Casagrande on DC's main Wonder Woman series, Williams will carry Wonder Woman into the next chapter of a year designed to celebrate the character’s place at the heart of the DC Universe.

"Diana has my whole heart," Williams enthused, "so getting to come back to her world after Wonder Woman and Matriarch feels like coming home, only this time with a longer runway. Six issues give me room to really sit with Diana, to let her be fierce and funny and compassionate all at once, and to let the story breathe in a way I’m so excited for readers to experience."

"Plus, I finally get to work in the Nubia team-up I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time, but this time they won’t be going to Las Vegas."

Wonder Woman #41, written by Louise Simonson with art by Cian Tormey, features a main cover by Ryan Sook and variant covers by Daniel Sampere, Walter Simonson, and Tormey. The issue also features a foil variant cover by David Nakayama and a Sweater Weather variant cover by Alexander Lozano.

I like Wonder Woman's costume design though. Good to see the white stars back. Just need one on the front flap now to match the sides

@MisterBones - I am one of those people who will tell you King just like most of his works has desecrated a beautiful character with his evil...

Good. His run just hasn't been consistent. Hated the Mouse Man stuff.

@ModHaterSLADE - He probably thought he was doing clever anti-Disney propaganda for his corporate overlords.

@ModHaterSLADE - Omg the Mouse Man part was so bad, "Mouse Man Knows, Mouse Man Knows" for like 3-4 frighin' issues straight!! What were they smoking?!!!

There's a stark difference between "divisive" and "universally disliked". His recent issues have averaged two stars.

@InfinitePunches - I'm one of the people on CBR giving him low scores throughout the series (only exception was #1-11, especially had an awesome fight with Darkseid's daughter at Washington DC capital), after that it's really horrific...

Haven't read his run here, but his Batman run a few years back was basically a 100 issue romcom with Catwoman. To his credit, he wrote her really well but everything around it was pretty weak. I liked Woman of Tomorrow but generally I'm not a fan of his work.

Umm.. I haven't followed WW until recently, and am not familiar with his other works. But the Wonder War has actually been pretty good, IMO. The Matriarch is one serious enemy.

@knomad - Oh your so lucky "not familiar with his other works..."

If you were I feel your pov would be different.

King's MO is to deconstruct heroes to the point of suicide literally lol.

His handling of time as well is some of the worst I've seen, (Day 1, Day 50, Day 13, Day 130...). It comes off as lazy and trying to give off the illusion of "wow this is so complex" when it's just stupid...

Matriarch was horribly built up l, King wasted the entire Mouse Man arc which should have been time used to show us more Matriarch actually dominating the world.

But instead of showing us he tells us, like I'm suppose to believe she could defeat Superman, John Stewart, go down the list. And all WW had to do was punch her??

Thank God they are getting rid of King, Stephanie Williams actually cares and respects Diana and her world and to have Simonson start it off with 4 issues is another masterstroke of genius.

Once those writers get in WW friend you will get better WW

This is a BIG WIN for Wonder Woman. I have been reading this series by King since August, I have been one of th more vocal critics on ComicbookRoundup, I did like issues #1-11 but after that it was a pure horror show especially recently how he made Diana kill herself for reasons I still dont understand.

The few issues Stephanie Williams wrote were very good and a breathe of fresh air after dealing with Kings bloated uninteresting writing. On my reviews I would say "get rid of King put on Eilliams please!!!!"

Its brilliant to have Simonson boost it up with 4 issues, than have Williams do 6 issues. She atleast treats WW and her world with respect unlike King....

I've learned to stay far far away from anything with Tom Kings name attached to it.
