Artist Tony Daniel has recently been giving us an inside glimpse of the creative process for designing the variant cover for January's Detective Comics #27 via Facebook. Below you can check out the cover in its original penciled format before adding inks and then colors. You can also see his work on a monthly basis in the pages of Superman/ Wonder Woman. Give that book a try. You won't regret it.

As for the interiors of the 96 page issue, John Layman and Jason Fabok kick off the ambitious "Gothtopia" story arc, which will conclude Layman's run. Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy also stop by for a visit to tell a sci-fi story involving a possible Batman of the far future and Brad Meltzer and Bryan Hitch will retell the origin of The Dark Knight. Paul Dini, Dustin Nguyen, Frank Miller, and Neal Adams are just a few more names that will contribute to this book.

Detective Comics #27 is available January 8.

First we start with Tony Daniel's pencils.

Now inks are added by Danny Miki.

Now Tomeu Morey puts the finishing touches on the piece with these robust colors.
