DC Comics have announced that Genevieve Valentine will take over Catwoman this October, and she will be taking the character in a very different direction as the events of Batman Eternal begin to effect the rest of the DC Universe. "Selina Kyle has discovered she's part of a legacy she never knew before, and heir to the family business," Valentine told io9 of the upcoming storyline. "She decides to accept the position, both because she sees a chance to restore a ruined Gotham and because, deep down, Selina's always played power games against herself. In this arc, she'll be coming face to face with what she's willing to do to keep her power, on a scale that could shake the whole city." Iron Patriot artist Garry Brown joins Valentine on the series which marks one of many creative team and story changes this October. What do you guys think?

As long as Ann Nocenti stays away from it, it'll be at worst mediocre. Ann Nocenti...yuck.

Finally Nocenti is off the book! Her run was terrible. Not sure about the new direction or the writer, but at least it can't ne as worse as Nocenti's stuff.

I love Selina with short hair.
I hope they'll give her the short do when we next see her in the new film universe.

I'm not really caught up with her in the New 52 but...didn't she die before Trinity War?

I really liked this series when it first started, but Anne Nocenti's run sucked so bad I stopped collecting the book all together

Dark Kryptonian - she didnt die, it was an infiltration operation by Martian Manhunter. He was pretending to be Catwoman.

As far as I'm concerned, Selina's still Carmine Falcone's illegitimate daughter. All this new 52 stuff might as well be fanfic.

@ Doopie: Nocenti's Catwoman was badly -- at times hilariously -- out of character, and this is CATWOMAN we're talking about, the superheroine with a thousand updates and revisions. It should've been impossible to come up with a direction that felt that badly off-base, but somehow Nocenti found a way. That's aside from her usual tin ear for dialogue.

Not that Catwoman was doing spectacularly well even before Nocenti took over. Imo, the only decent work done on Catwoman in the new 52 was her abbreviated run in JLA. But Nocenti definitely dragged the book to a new low.

As for the new direction... eh, at least it's a change. I'll be honest, it still feels like they're floundering for direction on Catwoman (she's a sexbot! No, she's the Snark Knight! No, now she's Bruce Wayne with boobs!). I kind of miss the old Catwoman who spent her time figuring out how to pull the latest impossible heist, but I guess she's not enough of a villain for that anymore.

When Nocenti wrote during Death of the Family that Joker was in love with Batman, I was convinced she needed to be axed from anything Bat related. It works tremendously as subtext, but the moment it is spoken out loud it ceases to be a creative tool and then becomes homoeroticism, and while I like to think of myself not as a bigot, I do know Batman and Joker don't want to cuddle.
