Today DC announced, via CBC, that a brand new superhero will be added to the lineup of Jeff Lemire's upcoming title, Justice League United. Equinox, a 16 year old Cree from Moose Factory, gets her powers from the Earth and they change season to season. Lemire, a Canadian himself and currently one of DC's most acclaimed writers, seems to have quite an ambitious project on his hands.

"Creating a teenage female superhero was interesting to me because, generally, most superheroes are white males. We need diversity and we need different personalities," Lemire told CBC. He continues: "You need very distinct voices for personalities on the team or else you just start writing the same character in a different costume."

Joining Equinox will be Stargirl, Animal Man, Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Green Arrow, and Adam Strange. You can pick up Justice Leauge United #0 April 23. Art will be provided by Mike McKone. Below you can view the cover as well the variant cover featuring Equinox.

Well I'm happy to see more new heroes but I would have liked to see people other then white characters. Is it really that hard to make African, Asian, Indian & Arab heroes to name a few other ethnicities. Other then just the typical white European.

As for her powers she sounds like she could be pretty cool. The idea of in the Summer she can make trees & plants grow. Then during the Winter she can make ice. So during the warmer months she is like Poison Ivy then in the winter like Mr. Freeze.

@JatevinM

After reading more about her from CBC I realized that she most likely was Native American. Which makes me happy to see she isn't from Europe. Nothing is wrong with Europe. Most of my family came from overseas. But I'm happy to see they she isn't the norm. Now I feel like an idiot after writing what I said. But I still think we need different superheroes. But this is a start. Which is great.

Her powers change by the season and, once a month, so does her temperament.

Pretty interesting line up... More than a dash of scifi too. I take it Supergirl's Red Lantern act doesn't take.
