FIRST LOOK: Duke Thomas Enlists In BATMAN's Army As Gotham's Daytime Protector, THE SIGNAL
He won't be Robin or Lark. Duke Thomas' superhero career begins in earnest as he debuts as Gotham's daytime protector, The Signal in DC Comics' upcoming miniseries, Batman & The Signal.
Many thought Duke Thomas would become another Robin, but the Scott Snyder creation will soon be receiving his own miniseries from DC Comics and will go by the code name: The Signal. Counter to Batman and the rest of the Bat-family, The Signal will operate during Gotham's daylight hours.
First introduced during Zero Year, Thomas really came into his own during Batman: Endgame, where the Joker kidnapped Thomas and his parents and threatened to kill them in front of Batman in a fashion similar to how Bruce Wayne's parents were gunned down in Crime Alley. Batman was able to stop the Joker but not before Duke's parent succumbed to Joker gas and went missing.
Initially operating as back-up from the Batcave, it looks as if Thomas will now step into the field as The Signal after having completed his training by all of the former Robins. The upcoming miniseries will be co-written by Snyder and Patrick Thomas.
Only one teenage hero is prepared for the challenge of safeguarding Gotham in broad daylight - THE SIGNAL. Duke Thomas juggles a new high school and teenage romance as he adjusts to his role as Gotham’s daytime protector and battles new villains. Could a daytime Gotham be even more corrupt than its nighttime counterpart?
