FOREVER EVIL #5 by Geoff Johns and David Finch

It is apparent to any reader that Forever Evil has been a slow burn, albeit a very enjoyable slow burn. In this issue Geoff Johns really picks up the pace. A massive "slobberknocker" breaks out between Lex Luthor's Injustice League and a cadre of villains that has sided with the Crime Syndicate. I'm aware that "Batman vs. Lex Luthor" was advertised, but that doesn't really happen in the physical sense. It's more of an intellectual and verbal battle that makes them aware of the fact that they must form an uneasy alliance to survive.

However, the Sinestro/ Power Ring fight does happen. If you're someone that proudly wears a Sinestro Corps shirt, I doubt this will fail to entertain you. Sinestro's dialogue and actions are in keeping with what made him such a multilayered character during Johns' Green Lantern run. Beyond that, I won't say anything. You MUST see how this battle plays out.

Another highlight of the book was seeing a villain switch sides to join Luthor's cause. It's a great moment that shows what deadly weapons Luthor's intellect and silver tongue can be. Remember how the Crime Syndicate's Earth was destroyed by something? Well, whatever it is shows up at the end of this issue. That compounded with the final fate of Dick Grayson should make Forever Evil #6 a compelling read. Score:7.5/10
