According to THR, DC Vertigo's 2007 comic series Scalped, by Jason Aaron and illustrator R.M. Guera, has been picked up for a pilot order by WGN America. Geoff Johns will executive produce the crime drama, which was was partly inspired by the 1975 arrest of Native American activist Leonard Peltier, who was charged with the murder of two FBI agents in a reservation shootout the same year.

For those unfamiliar with the story, here's the offcial logline for the show:

"Scalped presents a modern-day crime story set in the world of a Native American Indian reservation, exploring power, loyalty and spirituality in a community led by the ambitious Chief Lincoln Red Crow as he reckons with Dashiell Bad Horse, who has returned home after years away from the reservation."

Doug Jung (Banshee, Dark Blue) will pen the Scalped pilot, and will also executive produce alongside Johns.

@ComicsBornAndBred - Totally agree. Jason Aaron is amazing (though I've never read any of his mainstream superhero stuff). Sadly, I don't have much faith in WGN to do it justice; would be more than happy if they proved me wrong.

@HarryBloodscreaming - same. It deserves an HBO, NETFLIX OR SHOWTIME treatment. It's that damn good.

@HarryBloodscreaming - I wasn't a big fan of Original Sin (concept wasn't bad, but overall, poorly executed and felt overlong). Thor: God of Thunder on the other hand was spectacular.

As one of the only Native Americans on this site, I can say I do not like the sound of this. There are too many stereotypical ndn names in the description for me. I haven't read the comic but unless they're going red road and casting actual natives I think this is a bust

I was wondering what happened to this show. I believe the last I heard about it was over a year ago, so it will be interesting to find out if the show will be good or not. I hope the next Vertigo comic book show will be DMZ, Fables or Y: The Last Man. Put them on a channel like HBO and they'll be great.

All this comic book TV series will just accelerate the saturation of the genre. Now, every 2 months we find out about another comic book TV series being planned.

Jason Aaron is amazing, this was an amazing series, The God Damned is almost as good. and Southern Bastards is probably a little bit better. That said, WGN? No way, don't do it unless you can get it on AMC or HBO.
