VIDEO GAMES: DC Universe Online Delayed Until 2011!

It would seem that not even the combined powers of all of DC's super heroes could keep Sony Online Entertainment's DC Universe Online from being pushed back once again, this time to early 2011! Sony Online Entertainment announced the delay in a press release Monday afternoon and here's what John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment, had to say:

"As the game heads into external beta testing, this extra time will allow us to address community feedback in a meaningful way. When we get deeper into external beta, we’ll be able to share more information regarding the new launch date."

It’s not all bad news, though. They've also confirmed that the beta will be starting as early as next week and If you’re in North America and have preordered the game already (and before November 15) you’re guaranteed to get in the beta. Those placed after that date will give you access to a "special beta ending event" in the week before launch.

It was also revealed that the PS3 will get a collector's edition similar to the one revealed for PC earlier this year, complete with the DCUO Batman statue, the limited edition Art of DC Universe Online art book, DCUO Legends Issue #0, the DCUO Prestige comic presentation of the DCUO back-story and the limited edition Jim Lee-drawn poster Version of the Issue #0 comic book variant cover.

Yes but all this doesn't change the fact that it's pay for play, meaning that i won't be purchasing this. Arkham City it is ;)

And like i said before, although DCUO offers more than the average console game, i have to say that for anyone that's not a recently graduated high school student, living with their parents with a part time job and no bills to pay, taking a sabatical year off before college, no kids to feed and no girlfriend to take out, 60$ + 15$/month is WAY too expensive for ANY game, regardless of what you get for it. A simple game such as Arkham City which such a student could finish in 24 straight gaming hours could actually last a good month and a half to anyone else that has... not necessarily a "life" per say but rather... "commitments", preventing them to go back to the good ol' days when MMO's were the best reason to wake up in the mornings (noon-ish).

As long as they take the community feedback seriously and release a well polished product, I'm all for pushing the release date. There's nothing like rushing something out and then having to patch the crap out of it :o|

Cmon stop bitching and whining!!!!!

About Pay to Play... You have to Pay to Play in every single MMO Game so what are you bitching about.

WOW, Age of Conan, City of Heroes/Rogues,Aion,Lineage2 Etc
Hey man if you dont like or dont want to pay to play STFU and dont dont play DCUO. Trust me. You wont be missed

@ ckal

Being the only MMO with action combat is impressive alone, being one with a physics engine is even more impressive.

Theirs a lot more to DCUO than meets the eye initially.

What I'm hearing from people in beta is that they're adding more costume options and seriously addressing a lot of what they're recommending.

Theirs also a concise agreement among practically all the testers that DCUO is the funnest MMO they've ever played. These are WoW and COH veterans no less.

This games a force in the MMO world make no mistake.

Hellmont- We bitch because we'd all love to play DCU games. Yet all we ever got was Batman (or crappy movie adaptations)until word of this game came along, which was promissing being thought of as a free MMO. But now that our hopes have been crushed, well... yeah. We bitch.

@Shaman

Dude you really have no Idea what demographics play MMO's do you? I know full families that play World of Warcraft and City of Heroes. There are people with everything you listed. Usually when you play MMO's you "console gaming" becomes very limited because you start to care less about console games and would rather play a game with a living breathing community. Personally I'm lucky if I buy 2-3 console games a year, and if there is a PC version I usually opt for that instead.

Seriously you guys are making a way bigger deal out of 15 bucks a month than it needs to be. I really don't think you guys have any clue as to how little you'll buy/play other games once you get into an MMO. lol

Well Said shot888

This might be obvious already but I think they're reacting mostly due to the fact that they've never actually played an MMO before. Being life time console gamers.

Their are in store time cards you can buy people, it makes life easier.

JoshWilding - 10/4/2010, 1:28 PM
I agree with Nate. If they need this extra bit of time to ensure that the game is perfect, it's worth it. On the other hand, I completely get where Shaman is coming from. Not only do I not feel like I should have to pay to play this game on a monthly basis, but I've not got the time to spend 20 hours a day making my hero as good as everyone else's, lol! Hell, I go on Modern Warfare 2 and everyone's been on there so much, they're dozens of levels of above me! [frick] it. Arkham City all the way for me as well. :)

I swear some people would bitch if they were hung with an old rope! LMAO I ordered the game and have been counting the days for the release. Of course I'm disappointed that it's being pushed back but I understand that it's for the better. Plus, I'm now guaranteed the beta version which will cost nothing to play. To those bitching about the $15/mo: How many games do you buy, beat, then never play again? I'm betting at least 3 or four a year or more. I don't mind paying the fee to keep the game fresh.
Hellmont
Hellmont - 10/4/2010, 2:29 PM
Ohh by the way DC has nothing to do with the Delay. The Delays are due to Sony Online Entertainment the same ppl who brought you Ever Quest 1 and 2, Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures and now DCOU.
I Love playing MMO games with the exception of WOW because it looks like a queer cartoony kind of game. It just GAY. Trust me if SOE doesnt work out the bugs and if they do not finish these games correctly then a lot of weird things will occur within the game. Causing the game to run like shit and do ruin your gaming experience.

Which is exactly what happened @ the Launch of Age of Conan......A game with great graphics, bloody and gory with decapitations and fatalities. But there quests were glitchy as all hell and u could move up in the game very quickly and with an uneven system of PVP and unequally matched player classes ...this all caused a disaster and they lost a lot of their subscribers almost causing them to permanently close their servers........you dont want DCOU to go through the same thing .

@Tela - Clearly you didn't play FF11 on consoles or EQ1 on PS2 you still had to pay. Boo-Hoo you have to pay 10 dollars more for a Blu-ray disc. Seriously you people need to stop whining. Be lucky they are even putting it out on PS3 to allow you people that don't own a good computer to play it.

IMO I'd rather console players not be allowed to play with us and hope they get different servers because the difference between PC Gamers and console gamers is night and day and PC Gamers are much classier breed of gamer.

These QQ 15 dollars a month tears prove my point btw.

davidcub - 10/4/2010, 5:54 PM
@Scott888: Okay dude, I was with you all the way until you said that. I'm a console gamer, and I would say I have excellent gaming etiquette. There are enough snooty people out there in game world, it sounds a bit arrogant and unfair to say that pc gamers are somehow "classier".

HelloMynameisInigoMontoyaYoukilledmyfatherPreparetodie
After waiting this long is another couple of months really goona be that bad? God forbid they spend the time making it that much better and get the bugs out. Would you rather be pissed now for a minute or have it freeze up and you piss on your PS3?
ScottScottScott
ScottScottScott - 10/5/2010, 12:04 AM
@Davidcub, did you play FF11? If so I rest my case. If not, Console Gamers were terrible so bad in fact we 9/10 black listed them from our pt's and Link Shells. There is definitely a higher caliber of gamer on PC's not saying Consoles are bad. I enjoy them. But you can def tell the difference. in both etiquette and play style.

Skot888- I seriously get where you're coming from and honestly, i can't even begin to debate with your points because they are rock solid! Thing is, everything i listed as "commitments" in my first comment actually ALL apply to me. There is no way in hell that i could afford that game, no matter if it's price is fully justified or not. And if you know the demographics better than i do and that those state that even with the commitments i listed, those people can still afford playing different MMO's per year, especially in today's economy, then they can thank their lucky stars! I'm certainly not judging anyone that does play MMO's cause god knows i'd LOVE to be one of you! Contrary to certain users here, i actually think this game looks STELLAR! But it just ain't happenin' for me in this decade. I'd have to quit smokin' bahama sticks and that would be just sad :P

davidcub- IMO, in our day and age, they just don't put out that many games per year that i would consider worthy to buy let alone replay. I'm lucky if i can buy two games per year that will have any replay value at all. But the ones that i do buy and enjoy enough to replay, i replay them more than once such as InFamous, Arkham Asylum, Conan, Mini Ninjas, King Of Fighters, and that's just on my PS3. I still have my very favorite Tenchu Wrath of Heaven on my PS2 that i've played over 10 times and my Castlevania Symphony of the Night on my PS1 that i've played over 15 times! I'll never be rid of those unless my house catches on fire! But today's games seem to be all about sensation and the heat of the moment, filled with suspence and intrigue but ZERO replay value. And it's either you play those or pay through the nose for MMO's. I'm really shit out of luck here.

If I pay for a game then F#CK paying a monthly charge on top of that! Its bullsh%t, I don't have to pay $15/mo to play Halo or COD. This game will fail.
davidcub
davidcub - 10/5/2010, 12:01 PM
@Scott888- I'm not saying what you were saying isn't true. I'm just saying there are some of us console players who can hang and have fun with the best of them.

@Shaman: I hear ya man. The only reason I'm buying this game is because I love DC! I buy maybe 2 games a year max.
