I have been reading the Mage series for years; Matt Wagner has labored over this series first during Comico from February 1984 to December 1986 then with Image comics in 1997. Matt is barreling full bore towards the conclusion of this 45 issue collection with the current series.
I wasn't so certain about this series after Grendel (which I wasn't entirely into at the time, 1983.), however I eventually got hooked on both series. The magic and story in the Mage series has been fun thus far. I have been refraining from reading the issues so far (a newer trend due to books not coming out as expected from other companies.), so I can read it all in order (no spoilers to be had here). Matt's work is at its peak here and it very much shows. I am anxiously waiting for the next eleven months to go by so I can finally read them all in order (as they were meant to be.)
I myself am fortunate enough to have a letter printed in the upcoming Mage: the hero denied issue #4.
