Amazing Spider-Man is being relaunched with a new #1 issue next month, and June's #6 is set to double as the landmark #900! In this giant-sized spectacular, Zeb Wells teams up with Ed McGuinness for a story that takes place in the aftermath of the new run's first arc. Peter Parker, still reeling from his brutal battle with Tombstone, must contend with a terrifying take on the iconic Sinister Six!
Someone from Spider-Man's past has captured the Sinister Six and used them to create the truly terrifying Sinister Adaptoid, a being equipped with the abilities of Spidey’s greatest foes: Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Mysterio, and Sandman. It'll be one of the biggest adventures in Spider-History, and Marvel Comics promises "you will not believe the ending!"
"There's nothing I love more than a giant-size Spider-Man anniversary issue, and I'm pulling out all the...ah, what does it matter what I think. Ed McGuinness is drawing a super-sized Spider-story. Who isn't going to check this out?" Wells said in a press release today.
Longtime Amazing Spider-Man Editor Nick Lowe adds, "Zeb and Ed are trying to do the impossible - top Lee & Ditko’s Amazing Spider-Man! And that’s not the only thing that #900 has - including some shocks that are going to make you say, 'What were they thinking?'"
These landmark issues always have big surprises and unexpected twists and turns, so we're hoping Amazing Spider-Man #900 doesn't disappoint. Hopefully, more will be revealed by Marvel soon.
It appeared the original plan was for Nick Spencer's run to culminate with this issue and the renewal of Peter and Mary Jane Watson's wedding vows after "One Mor Day" ended their marriage. Unfortunately, Marvel seemingly change tact, and a storyline that looked set to address Spider-Man's deal with Mephisto head on reached a disappointing and mostly rushed conclusion last year.
