AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #900 Will Pit Peter Parker Against A Super Adaptoid With The Sinister Six's Powers

Marvel Comics has unveiled the first details for June's Amazing Spider-Man #900, and it sounds like Peter Parker will face his toughest challenge yet in a battle with a Sinister Six Super Adaptoid...

Amazing Spider-Man is being relaunched with a new #1 issue next month, and June's #6 is set to double as the landmark #900! In this giant-sized spectacular, Zeb Wells teams up with Ed McGuinness for a story that takes place in the aftermath of the new run's first arc. Peter Parker, still reeling from his brutal battle with Tombstone, must contend with a terrifying take on the iconic Sinister Six!

Someone from Spider-Man's past has captured the Sinister Six and used them to create the truly terrifying Sinister Adaptoid, a being equipped with the abilities of Spidey’s greatest foes: Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Mysterio, and Sandman. It'll be one of the biggest adventures in Spider-History, and Marvel Comics promises "you will not believe the ending!"

"There's nothing I love more than a giant-size Spider-Man anniversary issue, and I'm pulling out all the...ah, what does it matter what I think. Ed McGuinness is drawing a super-sized Spider-story. Who isn't going to check this out?" Wells said in a press release today.

Longtime Amazing Spider-Man Editor Nick Lowe adds, "Zeb and Ed are trying to do the impossible - top Lee & Ditko’s Amazing Spider-Man! And that’s not the only thing that #900 has - including some shocks that are going to make you say, 'What were they thinking?'"

These landmark issues always have big surprises and unexpected twists and turns, so we're hoping Amazing Spider-Man #900 doesn't disappoint. Hopefully, more will be revealed by Marvel soon.

It appeared the original plan was for Nick Spencer's run to culminate with this issue and the renewal of Peter and Mary Jane Watson's wedding vows after "One Mor Day" ended their marriage. Unfortunately, Marvel seemingly change tact, and a storyline that looked set to address Spider-Man's deal with Mephisto head on reached a disappointing and mostly rushed conclusion last year.

In the meantime, check out the first two covers below:

Marvel Comics haven't earned the right to call this issue #900 after all of the reboots to number #1. This time they're going from #90-something to #900 and then to another number #1. It's so confusing and irratating as a long time collector. They only pander to new readers with these sales tactics, while losing long term readers. I don't want 10+ different #1 issues. I want the numbers to continue in order always.

@kingjoeg - trust me, as a new comic collector it’s just as confusing and frustrating

@kingjoeg - should not go back to #1 after 900

Let the next 100 issues play out and get to 1000 like dc did with action and detective comics

@kingjoeg - I mean isn't that why they added the Legacy Numbering to allow for milestones and new number 1s?

@kingjoeg - guess thats just the entertainment business nowadays. Try to haul in as many new audiences (either through riding the popular IP wave or establishing yourself as a new big thing), while forgetting the core existing audience.

@kingjoeg - Exactly,I miss the good old days of comics. When comic runs had 100s of issues.

And the basically plagiarism between marvel and dc continues. Give it a month and dc will take something too by making, idk, a loki clone or something.

@Origame - yeah Amazon predates Super Adaptoid by 6 years

Although DC kind of ripped off Super Adaptoid later on. Bruce Timm hated Amazo, so for the Justice League cartoon he decided just to do Super Adaptoid and call him Amazo

@dracula - in fairness, ripping off a rip off of something you made isn't all that bad to me.

But there are plenty of cases of rip offs from both sides. Vision is a red tornado rip off, aquaman is a Namor rip off, and Guardian is a captain america rip off.

@Brand0n - lol taking a mask/hammer/shield and slapping it on some generic minority character is not new or interesting it's just lazy writing and pandering.not saying we shouldn't have more minority characters but those stories were just plain bad.

Which company rips off the other more often

Amazo : Super Adaptoid
Deathstroke : Deadpool
Namor : Aquaman
Atom : Antman
FearTheLiving

@dracula - It's a constant thing and honestly just looking at the dates they were created is misleading because they'll steal ideas from each other back and forth over the years through publication. That with the added fact that various writers and artists would go from Marvel & DC with a lot of ideas crisscrossing.

And there are characters that became so radically different that they themselves have had "rip-off" characters ala Deadpool you mentioned getting a rip off with "Red Tool".

I'm excited to see what they're gonna do next with Spidey. I know that we're all tired of Peter being a 30-year old man that is constantly broke and with no luck whatsoever with girls, but I think that they're making his character progress at a nice pace. I wonder why so many people come to this site, if all they're gonna do is hate on the stuff being published by both Marvel and DC...Like, yeah, they might be rehashed stories featuring the same plot points and cliches, but hey, at least we're able to read about our favorite super-heroes doing what they do best: take down bad guys and deliver meaningful messages about courage and heroism.

It's super-skrull.

These days the only comics i buy are collected editions of the Lee/Ditko/Kirby era. Those are the best comics ever made.

Why don't they just create a character or use a character like Mimic from The X-Men.
