AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: Marvel Comics Confirms Chasm Will Be A Villain In Relaunch - Can Ben Reilly Be Saved?

Marvel Comics has confirmed Ben Reilly's new villainous status as Chasm, and it sounds like the former Scarlet Spider will factor heavily into the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man relaunch as a villain...

Amazing Spider-Man's "Beyond" era came to a close this week, and Ben Reilly was left with a shocking new status quo. He's been the Marvel Universe's new Spider-Man in recent months after Peter Parker was hospitalised, but when his memories were stolen by the Beyond Corporation, Ben lost many of the key moments in his life that made him a hero (such as Uncle Ben's lesson about "Great Power").

In issue #93, we saw Ben perish after a devastating battle with Peter Parker. But all was not as it seems.

After 19 issues of hard truths and soul searching, Ben is more aware than ever that something within is missing. Consumed with the idea that Peter is the source for all that’s gone wrong in his life, Ben will now swing through the Marvel Universe as Chasm, a fierce and deeply personal new foe Marvel Comics has now confirmed will be part of Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.'s upcoming relaunch.

"Amazing Spider-Man #93 brings us to the end of the mega-arc the Beyond Board worked so hard on. And though this story is coming to an end, Ben Reilly's journey is just beginning," Wells promises. "Keep reading Amazing Spider-Man to find out if Peter can pull Ben back from the Chasm."

"Get ready to get to know the most terrifying new member of Spidey’s Rogues Gallery," Editor Nick Lowe added. "Part of the point of ‘Beyond’ was the creation of Chasm and we have huge plans for the artist formerly known as Scarlet Spider, so keep your eyes peeled Web-Heads."

Fans are hoping Ben can be saved, but this wouldn't be the first time the trauma of being Spider-Man's clone has sent him down a villainous route. We'll have to wait and see how things pan out, but Marvel Comics has now released that shocking final page alongside a design sheet by Patrick Gleason:

Slightly off-topic but when are we getting another solo series with Kaine? His Scarlet-Spider run by Cristopher Yost was super underrated imo.

@dragon316 - Yeah during the series he became the spider totem called The Other which gave him different powers such as poisonous wrist claws.

He was literally a villain about a few years ago, where they had him go through trauma and in turn do terrible things, followed by a redemption arc as Scarlet Spider and him becoming Spider-Man again should’ve been the resolution.

I’m not sure what fictional characters go through can be considered as abuse brought on by their writers, but if they can, this is it.

It's odd that a clone of Peter managed to have his own identity and name atleast twice while Miles Morales is still stuck with "Spider-Man".
