For those of you who don't know, the Ultimate Universe will be revamped. Following the beginning of Earth-1610 and Ultimatum, this will be the next big event, taking place after the "Death of Spider-Man" arc.
Brian Michael Bendis has mentioned many details about both Death of Spider-Man and this new Spider-Man whom we have been seeing aroung the internet.
A TOTALLY NEW AREA
“People will see from the very first page that this is very different from what we’ve seen before. Not for shock value or cheap theatrics, but for new characters and a new landscape to explore Marvel.”
The goal is for the Ultimate Universe once again to show something you can’t see anywhere else. It has to be completely different from everything.
Brian saying how when he and Mark Millar were hired to start the Ultimate Universe they were seen as unique voices with something new to say. He is incredibly proud of Jonathan Hickman, impressed by Nick Spencer, and is excited to work on a “tight, cohesive universe with them.”
Brian saying that he, Jonathan and Nick have been working together for months to plan this, which will contrast from the early days of the original Ultimate Universe where Ultimates had a different schedule an Ultimate Spider-Man really couldn’t acknowledge it as much as he wanted to.
- So we're going to see a totally different world from what we were reading. Theres gonna be new characters and much more. This may prove somewhat difficult considering the fact that people have gotten used to this Ultimate Universe. Bendis himself is actually more nervous about this launch than the first Ultimate launch with the risks they are taking
“I hope people will tune in, because we’re doing something that has never been done before.” -Brian Michael Bendis.
SPIDER-MAN STANDS ALONE (Sorta . . .)
Brian is talking right now about how there will be more interaction between all of the Ultimate books moving forward, but Ultimate Comics Spider-Man will still stand on its own–no need to buy the other books to understand what’s going on.
- Well that sounds like good news to those who follow only Ultimate Spider-Man. Of course I'm gonna see all the comics to see how the relaunch plans to build itself.
TALENT
“They will have to pry this book from my cold dead hands. I joke, but seriously.” -Brian Bendis
Mark Paniccia talking about Ultimate Fallout and how there will be cool Easter eggs throughout. Also saying Sara Pichelli will be drawing a chapter “that you cannot miss.”
Brian and Mark both praising Sara, in particular stuff like background and fashion design, which Brian calls “a lost art”
- Brian Michael Bendis is staying with Spidey and continuing his record long writing for the series.
Joining him will be artist Sara Pichelli whom I feel is good enough.
By the way for those who disliked Lafuente's art, David Lafuente will be moving over to New Mutants. Brian hopes to have him back for an Annual or something like that.
A NEW BEGINNING BUT SAME ELEMENTS
“This needs to be a new #1 issue even by the most cynical fanboy qualifications.” -Brian Bendis
“There are some elements of Spider-Man even more important than Peter Parker, and those will continue into the new series.” -Brian Bendis
- So this will be a totally new Spider-Man and could more or less be a starting point for new readers. Major elements of Spider-Man will stay. Speaking of a totally new Spider-Man . . .
NEW POWERS
Brian says Spider-Man will have new powers in this new series. He did research on spiders.
- Now this got my attention! Those who know, the mainstream Spider-Man did gain (and lose) new powers which included,
Arthropod communication,
Biological webbing,
Night vision,
Glowing red eyes,
Fanged Teeth,
Night Vision,
and sharp stingers.
Whether we'll see these powers or completely different ones is a mystery for now. However this is one thing I'm excited about!
SUPPORTING CHARACTERS AND VILLAINS
On the supporting cast, there will be new characters but they will need to meet old supporting cast members along the way who will also become part of the book.
There will also be returning villains, new villains, and Ultimate versions of classic villains Brian can’t believe he hasn’t done yet. Threat will come out of the X-Men comics and Mysterio is going to remain a big baddie
- So we've got new faces and old faces. Fair enough. And Mysterio continues to wreak havok, you know I'm starting to get tired of seeing Mysterio all the time. Video games and story arcs. Still, lets hope he can leave us, so as to say, mystified.
DEATH OF SPIDER-MAN - AFTERMATH
Brian said Ultimate Spider-Man #160 and Ultimate Fallout were two of the most emotional comics from him he has ever written. Mark says he cried. Brian said “You cried at Red Hulk.”
Mark Paniccia also said that Ultimate Fallout will have cool Easter eggs throughout.
The issue of whether or not the public at large knows something has happened to Spider-Man and that there is a new Spider-Man out there will be addressed in Ultimate Fallout.
“Captain America will have a big emotional connection to the story.” -Brian Bendis
“A lot of people make it clear that the Ultimate Universe was their way into comics or back into comics an that they have an emotional connection to these characters. I do too and don’t take it for granted. I take the relationship readers have with Peter, Mary Jane, etc. seriously. Some scary stuff is coming up, but ultimately, have no fear.” -Brian Bendis
-Alright fine, maybe not so much about "Death of Spider-Man" but hey its something.
I've noticed many people are saying that Peter Parker will NOT die. I think that will all this news, and covers like these . . .
. . . its time to accept the sad truth.
"Captain America's going to play an emotional part". Well that's not too suprising. Peter acted on his words and performed this act of heroism . . .
I wonder if Iron Man will also play such a part? . . .
To conclude, Bendis has said that many of these plans and storylines have been discussed for the last couple years and held until “it was time”.
Well apparently the time is now. It seems that Peter Parker's time is done and now its time for a new web-slinger to make his entrance (Not that I like it, but "O, well")
